"Dinosaurs didn't read. Now they are extinct. Coincidence?"
This satire is like a weapon that can hit two targets with one shot. In Indonesian proverbs, it is often compared to one rowing, two or three islands can be crossed, or two flies can die in one tap. This dinosaur satire is a joke, but it has undeniable value. Apart from being a joke, this satire can also be used to motivate children to be more interested in reading.
Reading is a basic need that must be owned by every human being, although in many parts of the world there are still many teenagers and even adults who are still illiterate. Reading is not like food, if you don't eat it, people will die. People will still be alive even if they can't read. But what kind of life will be had by not being able to read and write. what an unimaginable life in this sophisticated world.
Although the illiteracy rate is still high in Indonesia. But this country will never lack good people who care about these conditions. There are many NGOs and volunteers who work even without pay just to teach children in rural areas to read, write and count. And they do it with pleasure. May God bless their hard work.
One of them is Rumoh Baca Hassan-Savvas. A community reading park that was established to help the illiterate community and is committed to offering solutions in the form of non-formal education programs and community empowerment, especially the younger generation. It is located in the village of Jambo Timu, Blang Mangat District, Lhokseumawe City. It is 15 KM from the city center, and can be reached in about half an hour.
RBHS (Rumoh Baca Hassan-Savvas) has a fairly large yard that can be used as a children's playground or as a parking lot. If you visit there on Sunday, the day RBHS usually carries out activities, the yard will look beautiful with various colors of children's bicycles parked neatly. In the middle of the field there is also a badminton court which is still often used as a supporting facility for learning while playing.

Because it is located in the village of fishermen, RBHS is very close to the beach. The distance between the beach and RBHS is only separated by a road and a few neighboring houses. The beach is a beach that is directly connected to the Lancok beach tourist area. Although it is not in demand for tourist spots such as Lancok Beach, the beach is very supportive of RBHS literacy outdoor activities. A facility provided by nature.
Basically RBHS is just a small library which has several thousand collections of books such as history, linguistics, social sciences, handicrafts, arts and culture, agriculture, science, computers, environment and several others. However, the founder's determination and hard work supported by volunteers have made it a non-formal educational institution that has enormous benefits for the community, especially children of primary school age.
In addition to focusing on solutions to solve the community's illiteracy problem with fun ways of learning and teaching, RBHS is very concerned with handicraft skills and cultural arts. The result of the combination of the two produces fun activities for children to fill their weekends with activities that are basically learning.
There are many routine activities carried out at RBHS in an effort to foster children's literacy interest. One of the most popular is storytelling. In this activity, volunteers will read books containing inspirational stories. To make it more fun, volunteers also use props in the form of hand puppets. Usually the stories that are read are stories that can motivate children to become good spreaders to others.

Sometimes the children are left to do the things they want, and the volunteers just monitor and guide them. This activity is usually done by playing characters from certain professions that are considered to be able to build ideals for children. In playing this role play, children play the role of a chef, a merchant, a doctor, a pilot, a teacher, as well as a soldier or a policeman. And the volunteers help them to understand the tasks that are generally done by these characters.
Volunteers also help children better understand the interconnected ecosystem and how it is affected by human presence. This activity aims to enable children to identify the causes of environmental problems and make efforts to preserve nature.

Children are also taught counting techniques in interesting ways. Volunteers show how to solve multiplication and division without using a calculator. The accuracy of children is very honed here. It is intended that children have accurate arithmetic without being tied to the help of tools.
Not only focusing on literacy, RBHS volunteers also care about local culture. Children are taught to love and preserve it. Rapa'i art and trawler dance are the current focus of RBHS which are taught to children.
There are many more activities in order to promote community literacy that are carried out by RBHS together with volunteers and children. All of these activities are fun activities such as teaching children how to spell correctly, teaching writing for those who cannot, drawing and coloring, as well as being creative with various handicrafts. All these activities are not only fun for children. But also very entertaining for the volunteers. This is a very beautiful way of healing.

And at certain moments, RBHS often organizes competitions for children with lots of attractive prizes. In addition to sharing sustenance, the competition and distribution of prizes also aims to keep the children's enthusiasm in learning. Because basically the prizes in the competition are not only given to the winners, but all the children get them.

The RBHS has had a huge impact on community literacy. Without having to do scientific research on the illiteracy rate of society, there are tangible results. One of them is when certain days RBHS does not hold activities for children, there are still some children who come just to read the books they like. And it's a holiday. You see, what a beautiful sight it is when some small children deliberately and without compulsion fill their day off in the library? So beautiful.

So far, RBHS already has many volunteers, the majority of whom are students from various campuses in Lhokseumwe City and North Aceh. RBHS also has several donors who have helped a lot, both from within the country and abroad. But RHBS still welcomes anyone if they want to be involved in advancing the literacy of the younger generation.
