The world of education has become a victim of the policy of postponing employee appointments.

Another unwise policy issued by the Prabowo-Gibran Government in a month that should be full of blessings. The Minister of State Apparatus Empowerment and Bureaucratic Reform (MenPAN-RB), Rini Widyantini, and the National Civil Service Agency (BKN), announced the appointment of Civil Servant Candidates (CPNS) which should have been carried out on February 22 to October 1, 2025. Meanwhile, Government Employees with Work Agreements (PPPK) from March to July 2025 to March 1, 2026.

Many parties consider the reasons given by Rini Widyantini to be unreasonable and far-fetched. As conveyed in the mass media, MenPAN-RB is said to have to align data on information, positions, and placements because several government agencies still need time to complete the recruitment of State Civil Apparatus Candidates (CASN). In addition, each agency has a different ASN appointment date so that alignment is needed.

There is another reason given by Rini, namely that the postponement is in accordance with the joint decision of the government with Commission II of the Indonesian House of Representatives at a hearing in Senayan, Jakarta, on March 5. This reason seems to be a shelter for the government from the wave of protests against PPPK and CPNS which have been increasingly intense lately.

Commission II of the Indonesian House of Representatives has also denied Rini's statement. On the contrary, Commission II has asked for the process of appointing hundreds of thousands of CPNS and PPPK to be accelerated, as conveyed by Deputy Chairperson of Commission II of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Aria Bima.

The General Chairperson of the Association of Government Employees with Indonesian Work Agreements (AP3KI), Nur Baitih, also protested the decision to postpone. He considered the reason given by the Minister of PAN-RB, Rini, unreasonable. The reactions of CPNS and PKKK were also conveyed through an online petition, in addition to the loud protests that echoed on various social media platforms.

The disappointment of hundreds of thousands of CPNS and PPPK is understandable. In addition to the appointment being the furthest from the original target, especially PPPK which is up to a year, the postponement is really not the right moment. Hundreds of thousands of workers have to face the month of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr with heavy hearts. In fact, at that moment it usually requires higher costs.

More importantly, many of these PPPK are already elderly after bleeding to become honorary for dozens of years. Some of them have also terminated their contracts with their previous jobs in the private sector. So, if they have to wait another year, where will they finance their families' lives? A month is already hard, let alone a year.

Apart from the reasons above, the public does not get a more logical explanation. Regarding budget efficiency, it has been denied by Minister Rini Widyantini herself because state apparatus spending is not included in the efficiency section. However, there are also observers who suspect that the data alignment process is related to the expansion of ministries in the Prabowo-Gibran government era.

Whatever the reasons behind it, the government must cancel the postponement. The government must protect CPNS and PPPK because it concerns the lives of many people, both individuals and their families.[]
