Mini Chef in Action

Hello everyone, I hope you are all healthy and happy.

In this post I will tell about my happiness together with my children at home, this is a form of our participation in one of the Steemit engagement challenges 20. Participation The challenge we participated in was Mini Chef in Action, a fun participation post. Before I tell you about this interesting experience, I want you to pay attention to the little things to have fun in the kitchen with your beloved children.


Warnings, which should be on guard and remembered when in the kitchen with children.
  1. Tell your children or your Little Chef, which items can be used (not dangerous) and which should not be used (dangerous goods)
  2. Keep an eye on children when they are close to cooking utensils and sharp objects, such as stoves and knives.
  3. Teach children to wash their hands first when cooking, and wash again after cooking.

Well, I'll start my story today.
This afternoon around 5 p.m., I took three of the five children to cook in the kitchen. There is a menu that I want to cook with them, to cook this dinner I was also helped by my beloved wife. Of course, this becomes interesting because the theme of this week's challenge is Mini chefs in action, so this afternoon is the right time for me to share my story with you all.


The Menu that we will cook is chicken curry sauce, a dish that is quite popular among the people of Indonesia. This morning I bought the ingredients to cook the menu, because the menu is already in the last few days, a menu that I want to enjoy. To cook the chicken curry sauce, I bought the following ingredients :

Once the ingredients are available, I don't immediately invite my children to cook. In addition to giving them instructions on how to rule while in the kitchen, I also provoke their enthusiasm by making something even more interesting. What did I do?


I invite my children to make one of the equipment for cooking that is often used by a chef, the equipment is a Chef's hat. This makes children much more enthusiastic to start cooking. The ingredients to make this Chef Hat are not difficult, I use used items around us. These items are :

  1. 3 pieces of used calendars, for 3 of my children.
  2. Scissors.
  3. Paper Clip.

The steps to make it are quite simple, my children and I just fold the used calendar in a parallel or equal position. Next, the children and I used scissors to cut one of the pieces to make it look like a Chef hat, this is the hallmark of a chef hat. The next step is to bring together the two End sides of the calendar that have been folded and cut out, then connect using click paper in order. Before connecting, I first measured the diameter of the circle of the head of my children.

And the first step to cooking with the children was completed, the Little Chef Koko hat was already available, and the children were getting impatient to start cooking. The Little Chef was in action.

Chicken Curry Soup Cooking Section, With My Little Chef

To cook Chicken curry sauce that I cook with my children is not so difficult to do. Moreover, the spices that used to be mixed by themselves, are now easy to buy on the market with a very precise composition. So we just add other small spices that are not so difficult, such as salt and sugar.


1️⃣ In the first step, my children and I began to wash the chicken pieces that I bought this morning and kept in the refrigerator. One by one we washed chicken pieces together, and my children enjoyed it. What's more, they feel like a cook because of the gear on the head they use.

2️⃣Then, at the direction of my wife and I, my children mixed drops of lime juice into the pieces of chicken meat. This is needed so that the fishy taste in the meat becomes lost, as well as to turn off the bacteria that are on the parts of the meat. The kids seem eager to do that.

3️⃣The third step, mix the chicken meat with a few spoons of salt so that the taste and texture of the chicken are a little fresher and a little salty. This is also along with heating the cauldron and also putting a few spoonfuls of oil into it, and starting by cutting onion slices into the cauldron. For this action, I immediately sliced the onions, my children watched carefully.

Put the sliced onion and heat it with a low temperature fire, this is also done by my children under my supervision


4️⃣ Next, the children and I put the prepared spices into the cauldron, this is marked by the release of the aroma from the onions, which were fried earlier at a low heat.

5️⃣ After the ingredients have been entered, stay in stirring evenly until the aroma of spices is completely smelled. Here it takes about 5 to 8 minutes, for later it will pour water into the seasoning. In the photo below my children are again stirring the ingredients that have been in the cauldron so that they are evenly mixed.

6️⃣ Next, enter the coconut milk into the spices that have been fragrant smell, and back in the mix until evenly distributed. Next, add one by one piece of chicken meat to the pan, while stirring them. In this Section, children should be supervised because the use of the stove to children without supervision, is little at risk.

Then stir again, while waiting for the cooking process which takes half an hour, my children and I talked about the dishes that we were still.

Finally, after going through the initial process of cooking this chicken curry sauce, the dishes we cook are done. The kids were so excited to see the food that was served to them. By tasting the cooked soup, they also suggest adding a little more salt, so that the dish tastes even more delicious. The chicken curry sauce is finished and ready to be served as a dinner menu for us and my family.


The best part my kids feel

I ask my children about this cooking moment, and which part of it they find the most fun. The answer is the moment to make a chef's hat at the beginning before cooking, they are very happy with the initial steps to prepare before cooking.


The next best moment is when they are also involved in preparing spices and participating in the cooking process, they consider this to be a part that they like. However, sometimes they are a little afraid of the heat contained in the water vapor in the process of cooking the chicken curry sauce.

Wonderful creativity, I love the chef cap it shows how prepared you and your children are, I can remember making something like this hat I couldn't,but seeing this I can try again. I commend your effort in bringing out this bond by allowing your children participate in this mini chef in action I love the outcome of the chicken sauce.
