SEC S5W5: My Corner : Redeemers University Bursar's Week 2022 News Report

Good day dear Steemians. This is the news report from Redeemer's University, Ede Osun State, Nigeria. Today which is Saturday, 12th November 2022 (12/11/2022) is the sixth day of the Redeemer's University Bursary Week which happens to be a medical outreach for the indigene of Ede and those living in the town.

The event comes with a lot of opportunities for the people, most especially the needy, before I proceed I will list the most important event of the day.

Now let's dive into the full details of the event.

The program commenced at 10:00 am with an opening prayer, after which the people that attended the program were introduced and recognized such people are the Registrar, Mr. Olukayode Emman Akindele, the Secretary, Pastor Alakija, the Bursar chairman, and the entire bodies in bursary department.

Furthermore, the health center department which include Consultation (Doctors), Nursing (Matron and Nurses), Laboratory (Scientists and Technicians) and Pharmacy department (pharmacists) and lastly the indigenes that attended the program was as well recognized at the start.

The recognition of the presence of the people in the program was followed by 10 minutes of praise & worship where everyone appreciates and praises our maker for everything He had done and is doing for us then comes the word of God titled "To be a Winner", the man of God explains that to win one has to receive divine support because human effort alone is not enough, then be obedience to God's word and command, be a delight, discipline and lastly be focus and determined.

The Health topic for this event was named how to live a healthy lifestyle, and the nurse talk to the audience about how they can live a good and healthy life by taking care of themselves, cooking in a healthy environment, eating healthy meals, ensuring their body, home and surrounding are well taken care of to avoid different diseases such as malaria, also they should visit the hospital anytime they are not feeling fine to know exactly what is wrong with them and in their body instead of going through self-medication.

Lastly, she discusses how important it is for women to be supportive to their husbands by engaging in some hand work such as trading, hair styling, fashion designing, etc.

The Bursary Department of the Redeemer's university donated/presented some machines to a set of people, whom they had a talk with about their needs and are willing to help, some of the machines are:

Tailoring machine: 5 tailoring machines were presented to women that had learned tailoring but had no financial capability to buy the machine, so the institute gave these women machine so that they can start working and make money

Commercial grinding machines: These were also given to those that did not learn any work, so that by grinding and blending pepper for people commercially, they can be making money from it to cater to their families.

Electricity Generators: Tiger generator was presented to a man that requested it before the event.

Counseling was done for those that need someone to talk to so that they can advise and guide them on the right path. The counseling can be based on any topic, this is done to ensure people are living happily and to make them share whatever it is that is bothering them. We know people are passing through a lot and not sharing it with people that guide them the right way might lead them into making the wrong decisions or being depressed.

Laboratory Department: This is where the test is being done and where I worked for the day. Over 70 children were tested for malaria parasites and the adults too were tested for glucose and malaria parasites as requested by the doctor.

Nursing Department: This is where the adults that wanted to consult the doctor first branch to get their vital signs such as Blood Pressure, temperature, Pulse, Respiration, etc so that they can take the result to the doctor for consultation.

Consultation: This is where the doctor attended to all the adult that has a complaint about their health and how they were feeling, if there is a need for them to do the test, the doctor would tell them to come to the lab for the test before he/she prescribe drugs for them, and whoever that did not need test but only drug, the doctor also prescribed drug for them too. Also, all the results of the malaria parasite tests done for the kids go through the doctors for drug prescription.

Pharmacy Department: This is where all the people seen by the doctor took the drug prescription note to so that they can collect drugs. A lot of drugs were available for distribution such as antimalarial, antibiotics, ulcer drugs, high blood pressure drugs, Vitamin C, B complex, blood capsule, analgesic and many others.

Note: All the laboratory, nursing care, consultation, and drugs are free of charge.

A lot of wears (suits, ankara, lace, and other western dresses), shoes, and jewelries were made available for people to pick and all the wears were taken before the end of the program. This is also free of charge.

The program came to a close at past 4 pm after all the people were being attended to and souvenir which consist of two bursary week notebook, food, drinks, and water was given to us.

The medical outreach under bursary week at the Redeemer's University was a successful one and I so much enjoy and love how the event took place, a lot of faces held a smile at the end of the party because the institution contributed greatly to their lives and families. Furthermore, over 65% of the kids tested positive for malaria parasites and they were given drugs such as Lonart and P.Alaxin which are good and costly antimalarial drugs, and some of these parents can not afford to buy them.

Some of these parents will not even think of taking the kids to the hospital until the illness aggravate, also the adult enjoyed free medical check-up and medicine too. This is the news for today about Redeemer's University Bursary Week 2022. Thank you for reading.
