Without saying a word, the professor began to put the small stones into the mayonnaise jar one by one. The students were confused, but the professor did not give an explanation first. After the stones reached the neck of the tube, the professor spoke for the first time that day. He asked the students if they thought the jar was full. The students agreed that the jar was full.

The professor then picked up the pebbles on the table and slowly poured them into the jar. The small pebble found a gap between the large stones. The professor then shook the jar lightly to allow the pebbles to settle in the gaps in the jar. He then again asked the students if the jar was full, and the students again agreed that the jar was full.

The students now knew what the professor was going to do next, but they still didn't understand why the professor did it. The professor took the sand and poured it into the mayonnaise jar. The sand, as expected, filled any remaining space in the jar. The professor asked his students for the last time if the jar was full, and the answer was once again: YES.

The professor then explains that the jar of mayonnaise is an analogy for life. He equated stones with the most important things in life, namely: health, your spouse, your children, and all the things that make a complete life.

He then compares pebbles to things that make your life comfortable like your job, your home, and your car. Finally, he explains that sand is the little things that don't really matter in your life.

The professor explained that placing the sand first in the jar would leave no room for rocks or pebbles. Likewise, cluttering your life with the little things will leave you with no room for the big things that really matter.

Moral Message:Pay attention to everything that is important for a life full of happiness. Take time to be with your children and partner. Complete your work when you are in the office, not when you are gathering with family. Revenge against someone will not do you any good. Get your priority now and differentiate between rock, gravel and sand.
