Space Sweepers is a film released by Netflix this year, being specific, it is a Korean film that was first released in theaters last year, achieving quite a success in that country, it was released this year through Netflix so we are already able to catch a glimpse of Jo Sung-hee work as a director on this film. I have to say that the film from my perspective has been quite decent and competent and I would like to elaborate on my reasons why I think that watching Space Sweepers is worth your time.

Space Sweepers goes into the future, Earth is not an ideal place to live anymore so a new habitable place is built in space, few people can go up to live into that place. The story puts us in the focus of four characters who live together on a ship called Victory, these characters are a kind of space sweepers who have to work hard to get enough money to live, everything changes when a girl who is wanted by the authorities stay to live with them, leading to very dangerous situations.

What I would like to highlight first is that the chemistry between the characters is quite good, their friendship can be felt and this improves with the arrival of the girl, since she is the one who makes the relationship between them improve, in general, the five characters are good and charismatic, they won´t be very difficult to forget and everything is thanks to the following aspect.

Whatever the medium, it is very important to develop your characters since they are the ones who will carry the thread of the story, an audience that is not interested in the characters of a product will very likely lose interest quite quickly and that is my point, this movie actually takes time to establish a bond and the audience, the characters are introduced and the context is explained to us, their way of being and even one or the other has their own character development.

The film has an interesting world which didn´t know how to explore or rather, didn´t want to, it seems to me that its world would give more interesting situations or more social context, I mean, there could be a civil conflict between people who are suitable for going to space and those that don't, however, none of that happens, it's as if worldbuilding were minimal and the world more of an excuse in which events happens.

I am not very experienced with Korean cinema but to tell the truth Space Sweepers left a good impression on me, the film is not saved from having its negatives but in general terms it has been a good experience.
