Many people have made a mess of themselves in their University first year. I have seen it happen often and this is why I want to give out this information and I'm sure it will help somebody.
At the very starting point, from now on, it's all your responsibility because as an undergraduate,
You must leave home to live in or near school, no more going home after school to meet family members.
You are now assumed a full adult no matter the age.
You must wake up at a stated time in order to meet up.
You must go for your cleanup, wash up, etc, all by yourself.
You must manage yourself, your time, your money, etc. New manager!
You must bathe, wash, sleep, wake, go out, come back, etc, all on your own discretion.
You must choose what to do and what not to do.
You will now live in a strange world, where you (I) live and sleep with strangers
I. Meet strangers all around.
ii. Live and move in a strange environment.
iii. . Listen to strange talkers called lecturers.
iv. Listen and interact in strange language called slangs. You will go for lectures in different halls.
You must be seated before the lecturer comes in.
You must read ahead of the lecture topics following the course content.
You must do more assignments (read on your own and answer questions) than teacher's evaluations.
You passed JAMB and post JAMB (for Nigerians, though I'm sure that other countries have their admission procedures), to be here, you must not now be a failure so you must prepare to pass your exams from your first day in campus.
Finally, you are separated from your home, your comfort zone, your parents, your siblings, just because of academics, you must therefore give it the best of your time. YOU ARE TRUELLY IN A REAL NEW WORLD.
Thanks for your time. I will yet come again to x-ray what you should expect as a first year undergraduate. Good luck to you.
