I can't review this movie based on the movie itself because I didn't understand anything that happened during the movie. In fact, I couldn't really understand what the characters were saying for the most part. It might be the result of the IMAX experience and deafening sound of music and gunshots. Anyways, after I stared at the screen, confused for two and half hours, when I got back into the car I listened to several videos explaining "what the hell happened in tenet".
Once I was able to grasp the plot of the story and the science behind time inversion, I was finally able to be utterly amazed at the plot and the visual effects. Christopher Nolan has toyed with time before, but Tenet is at a whole another level.
Let's first talk about the plot. It's very complex and intricate. As far as I can tell, there are almost no loopholes in this movie. In fact, everyone's story makes sense by the end of the movie. Every scene, every detail is brought around in full-circle. Almost nothing is left unanswered.
Now let's talk about the science. Based on the YouTube videos that I watched, Christopher Nolan really did his homework. All these concepts about entropy and time inversion are used correctly. Everything, once explained by the YouTube videos, blows your mind.
Lastly, let's talk about the visual effects. No matter how confusing it is to see two versions of the same people walking forward in one time and walking backwards in inverted time, the visual effects were very intricate and very real and very believable. On top of that, it just blows your mind. Watching a building turn from getting blown up to not blown up and then getting blown up is confusing but so cool.
This was the most mind-boggling movie that I've ever watched so you don't want to miss out. Though if you want to be not as confused when you watch it, make sure you have captions and pause the movie every now and then.
