It is also worth noticing that the policemen do abuse of him and that before hell break loose Rambo tries to be peaceful at first and to surrender after a policeman dies. It was this stupidity and abusive behavior from the police towards him at the beginning which impressed me the most the first time I wachted it (even though Rambo could have walked past that town at first, his anger for being treated differently is understandable)
