Hello Steemians, I'm so excited to drop my last article for the Steemit Engagement Challenge Season 5. Today I will be discussing Christmas and how it is being celebrated in my country.

Christmas is a special festival that is celebrated in most parts of the world, including my country, as we all know that birthday is something everyone remembers and celebrates each year, the same thing goes with Christmas. It is a festival that is used to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, who came to the world because of us so that we have eternal life. I'm from a country called Nigeria and I will be sharing with you how Christmas is celebrated.

Do you celebrate Christmas in your country? If the answer is Yes, say how they celebrate it

Yes, we do celebrate Christmas in Nigeria, you would have known once it's late November or early December that it's the Christmas period because all the supermarkets, eateries, stores, offices, hospitals, churches, filling stations and the roads will be decorated so beautifully with Christmas tree ornaments, Christmas garland, wreaths, candles, Santa Claus figure, Christmas strong light and ribbons and other fabrics used for decorations.

All these decorations tell people its Christmas time, which is also a happy moment for children because it is time for them to see Santa, play with him and collect gifts as well, also it is a period for families to be merry together and have a family time, go shopping for all the things needed for decorations, food and to shop for new cloth and shoes, especially for the children.

Apart from these, we do organize a Christmas carol in church before Christmas day where we do celebrate Christ Jesus with joy and love with people dressed in white, red or green, some red and green, red and white, and so on with Christmas caps. We would watch a drama that discuss his birth, how his mother got conceived, when and where he was born and the incidents that happened after his birth, it is a celebration of joy and we sing and sang.

Then comes Christmas day when all family spend some time together in love, laughter, and joy, eating a delicious meal, creating more bonds, and enjoying family time.

Do you perform any rituals at Christmas or on that special date?

No, there is no ritual attached to Christmas, Christmas day is a day in which everyone dress gorgeously, attends church to celebrate Christ's birth together, returns home with our families, prepare and enjoys delicious meals.

Though during Christmas carol we usually off the electric light and light candles towards the end of the program when singing Silent Night, which symbolizes Christ being the light of the world, because there was lightning that follows immediately He was born.

What special food do you prepare for this celebration?

The Special meal we usually prepare in my house during Christmas is delicious Jollof and Fried Rice with mostly Chicken/Turkey or sometimes beef, the rice does taste different and delicious maybe because it was prepared by my mom. Also, we do prepare Amala in the afternoon or evening and eat it with ewedu, soup and meat.

Do you have any special memories regarding Christmas or that special date?

Every Christmas is special because it is the day the savior that brought light and life to us was born and the Christmas period is the one everyone loves because everywhere displays beauty. One of my memories of Christmas that I love was a Christmas carol I attended, the program was great, and I enjoyed every bit of it, I sang, danced and we showed love by exchanging gifts with one another.

Furthermore, it is not like the one we used to do which allowed you to exchange your gift with anyone you like, instead, our name was put down on a sheet of paper and another was written on short paper one by one, placed in a bowl and mixed, once they call your name you go to the bowl and pick a paper, whatever name you pick is the person you are giving your gift too. And those that comes without any gift would be given a gift by people that brought more than one gift, that way all the gifts would be shared in love with laughter and joy, with no one feeling neglected because his/her gift is small or he/she didn't bring any gift.

If you could send a virtual Christmas gift to a Steemit user, who would it be and what would you give him?

I would love to give @ruthjoe a Christmas gift card virtually because she is an amazing person that loves seeing everyone happy, also I know she is a lover of Christmas as she usually show how much she loves celebrating Christmas with her families and loved ones, so I'm sending my gift to her and I'm sure she will appreciate my gesture.

Conclusion

The Christmas period is a time that both kids and adults look forward to, it is a celebration of love and a period most families staying apart do use to stay together and create more bonds. It is a period children look forward to seeing Santa Claus and also as kids back in the days we love taking our promise gift cards ( this is a card that contains the list of gift and people fill it based on what they want to give the kid for Christmas) to elder loved ones to fill.

I enjoy every bit of Christmas and look forward to it for everyone because it is a period to dine, wine, and enjoy. Thank you for reading.
