I have been helping people until I came across a man who used his condition as a source of income.
There's this particular man I met while I was working before I went to university. One day as I dropped off my company bus, he approached me saying that he was a missionary and that he needed a transport fare back to his destination. I told him I didn't have money on me, which was true. On another occasion, I met him in the market, forgetting that we had met before, he used the same story of a missionary. I knew him better, so I just walked past him.
On one of the days while at university, I met him again with the same story after about a year or two. Later, after I'd finished university and was working, on my way back home, I burst into this acclaimed "missionary" again.
To my surprise, he was still in the same business. I exclaimed and laughed out loud. I asked him, sir, are you still doing this same business after many years? Back before I gained admission into the university, I graduated, and I am working? Wow! The man, knowing that I knew him, ran and disappeared from me.
From that time, I have really investigated people before helping them, because some people use being helpless or needing help as a business and so, instead of being a victim while trying to help, I make enquiries.
I have also heard of a woman who wanted to help another woman but the woman who needed help ended up stealing from the one who wanted to render help to her.
Before the helper becomes a victim, be sure people truly are helpless before rendering help to them.

I agree with you that whenever a person helps someone, he should first investigate about him. Otherwise, the world is full of fraudsters. A similar incident has happened to me. And that person was just asking people for money by telling a false story. And this was his source of income. In this way, often deserving people are left without help. Because people look at everyone with suspicion and often deserving people are left with the help of others.

@eveetim it quite disheartening that some people have become professional beggars making it quite impossible to know those who truly needs help in this cruel world.
Thanks for the invite
