PowerHouseCreatives Contest | Class of 2019
The three photographs I feel round out my life's journey in 2019 are the ones that depict three distinct memorable moments.
Photo No. 1
The photograph below is now my life in real time. The picture shows the equipment I need to monitor my A1C levels twice a day. I utilize my monitoring kit that contains an Accu-Check A1C level Reader, Lancets, Accu-Check Softclix Pen to pierce my finger, and alcohol prep pads to sterilize the area administered.
From the moment I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes in May, my life changed forever. On that day my A1C level was 288. Today, it is 146. I have set my New Year's Resolution to reduce today's number to under 100. In a previous post, I set out my 2020 monthly schedule outlining how I plan to accomplish that goal.

Even though we knew the temperature would be a chilly 50deg., we forged ahead and made reservations at an RV Resort near Wolff Lodge, a family indoor entertainment park in Grapevine, TX. My grandchild was thrilled because all events consisted on temperature-controlled indoor activities. However, my anticipated outdoor activies at the RV park were cut short as I had to retreat indoors due to the weather.
We decided to go to see how we could handle vacationing in cooler temperatures. A colder weather front came through the first day, with high winds and rain, making it impossible for me to sit outdoors under the canopy and enjoy the lake. Even the fish decided not to break the surface that day.
I'm an early summer time weather person when it comes to enjoying my RV. I now know that vacationing in colder temperatures is not for me. A lesson learned.

What can I say about this picture? How can one even work in this environment, let alone induce creative thinking enough to write? Solution: I just overlook it. In the past, I didn't allow any items to accumulate enough to make a "pile". But over the past couple of years, it seems as though the amount of junk mail has increased. I put them away promising to return at a later date.
But not all the piles are junk mail. Papers and files comprise other piles that need to be stored in the file cabinet. But somehow it seems like too much work to walk over to the cabinet to get what I need. It's a mindset.
Then, earlier this year, I saw a television program that changed my way of thinking. A series named "Hoarders" caught my attention because I saw those piles and immediately thought of my office. It was unnerving to actually see in yourself something being portrayed as general knowledge with a label attached to it.
Hoarder. Wow, that made me realize this was actually what I was doing on a small scale. To hear the psychologist in that segment trying to explain the condition affected me as though she were looking at my office while visiting me for an in-home consultation.
I didn't want to make cleaning my office my New Near's resolution because I have more pressing matters to attend to, such as my health. That's one of the reasons I haven't been up to the task of clearing and organizing it. I did manage to gather some items, such as old computer equipment, clothes, and other useful housewares for charity.
Organizing my office will be one of my priority tasks starting after the week of Christmas. I've accummulated so much paperwork and items over the years. It will be a slow process.
I can say that I've had a great year, even after learning about my illness. The fact that I discovered Steem platform was one positive aspect. I now have an outlet for my various types of writing.
The individuals I've met in the different Tribes have been encouraging and supportive, providing numerous tips and suggestions on how to operate on the steem platform. For example, as I was creating this post, @viking-ventures sent me a suggestion on my series writing on how to "tidy up my previous chapters so that my writing is quick on the previews". I knew it looked awkward, but hadn't figured out how to tie several previous chapters at this point. That was extremely nice of her to help me in this way. Also, other writers have opened my eyes and mind to new concepts, experiences, and wonders through their eyes.
Thanks to everyone for the experience.
Thanks,
@justclickindiva
Happy rest of the week everyone with whatever your endeavors.

Another great entry to this weekly contest! Isn't it wonderful when someone points out something to us so that we can do better after hearing their advice? It's one of the best ways to find and smooth our rough edges we can't see ourselves. Good luck!

Learning about your diabetes is not easy, life altering in every aspect of diet and looking after yourself @justclickindiva.
Hoarding objects was something I also tackled during the year, we hang onto items we really don't need, I found pleasure in passing many unused items on during the year.
Have a wonderful day and good luck in the contest, lessons learned in class of 2019.

Thanks @joanstewart. Appreciate your kind words. Yes, I admit I hold on to things much too long. Don't know why. I think part of my problem is I just don't feel like addressing it trying to determine the appropriate place for it. When sometimes it just goes in FILE 13.
Trying to do better for 2020. In the meantime, after Christmas, next week I'm going to give a lot of items away again to charity. Then start working on filing away my important papers.
Take care, and have a happy holiday and new year.

I can't imagine how scary it must be to learn about a condition that will affect you for the rest of your life... I have "shades" of the experience from about 8 years ago when I learned about my hypertension...

Hi @denmarkguy. Thanks for taking the time to view my post. Yes, it is scary, no matter what the ailment. I have hypertension also, so I got a double whammy, as they way. I have to really be careful now. The more other illnesses you have the more Diabetes will affect you because the other illnesses work against you.
Take care of your hyperension and have a great holiday season and new year.
