INTRODUCTION

Great farmers, I do hope that you all are doing good and great? To live without farming is to live in hunger. For hunger to be kicked out, then everyone should engage in farming not minding how little the piece of land could be.

Now having said this, in farming , crops may not give a high yield except with the help of fertilizers. Adding fertilizers to the plants makes the soil fertile enough for the plants to produce and give us a bountiful harvest.

The fertilizers could be organic, inorganic or a mixture of both the organic and inorganic fertilizers that cojld be used to enhance the soil fertility and a good crop yield. In this contest, I would be showing this farmers community, the type of fertilizer that I use to enhance my crop yields.

Organic fertilizers are the substances made from plant or animal wastes including some powdered-form minerals. Examples of the organic fertilizers include:

  • Manure

  • Poultry manure

  • Emulsion from fish farming

  • Compost manures

  • Animals or livestock wastes.

They are some of the examples of the organic fertilizers.
On the other hands, chemical fertilizers also known as artificial or synthetic fertilizers, are made from purified fertilizer chemical substances from the following:

  • ammonium chloride

  • ammonium nitrate

  • petroleum products

  • Ammonium phosphate

  • Urea

I make use of the organic fertilizer

I personaly, prefer organic fertilizers to chemical or inorganic ones. I run a poultry farm where I obtain the dungs that the birds produce after digesting the feed they eat. The dungs could be used as a fertilizer to enrich the soil that would ultimately enable the plants to produce high yields of crops. It is cheap and easy to get unlike the chemical fertilizers. Sometimes even when the prices of the chemical fertilzer are subsisized by the goverent, they are still out of the reach of the farmers. So this leaves them with the option than finding the organic fertilizers. The organic fertilizers are also less harmful than the chemical ones.

The Status Of My Country's Use Of Chemical Fertilizers(Nigeria)

There are high potential for chemical fertilizer application in Nigeria

PhotoGrid_Site_1735205289403_1.jpg

Nigeria has a vast land for farming, which is not yet fully put to use. The portions of the land the land which has been used so far for farming is not giving high yield. This is becase 80% of the land has nitrogen deficiency, over 75% of the land has phosphorous deficiency, and over 60% of the land lacks potassium.

The high prices of fertilizer is affecting its application in Nigeria. The application is estimated to be about 1 million tons comprising the various types of fertilizers. So on average, only about 30 kilograms per hectare, is applied. Therefore, there are high potential of chemical and organic fertilizers in Nigeria.

Nigeria is battling with low production of chemical fertilizer. This has made the country to be so much dependent on imported fertilizer. When the fertilizers are finally imported, it would not be affordable to the farmers because of the high prices. Those who could afford it would be few and this would reflect in the prices of the commodity when they are harvested and brought to the market.

Advantages and disadvantages of organic fertilizers

The use of the organic fertilizer have some advantages and disadvantages which would presesented below:

Advantgages

  • It is friendly to the ecosystem

  • It creates a good soil structure

  • It is not harmful to plants

  • Plants easily absorbs organic fertilizers slowly than the chemical fertilizers

Explain the advantages and disadvantages of organic fertilizers and chemical fertilizers.

Currently, there is a lot of use of chemicals Fertilizers. How can we reduce this and use organic fertilizers?

The Disadvantages

  • It is very costly in some areas although, in my country, it is even more affordable than the chemical fertilizers

  • It is difficult to get into the soil without the help of microorganisms breaking it down

  • It takes time before the plants begin to absorb it

Advantages Of Chemical Fertilizers

Below are some of the advantages of using chemical fertilizers:

  • There is a well spelled-out measurement for its application unlike the organic fertilizer

  • It produces faster results

  • It is said to be more affordable in some regions

Disadvantages

  • It does not build a good soil structure

  • The toxins it generates releases toxins into the soil

  • It is not ecosystem-friendly

  • There are high tendencies of over-usage or application

How we can reduce the use of chemical fertilizers and use organic fertilizers

We can reduce the use of chemical fertilizers and use organic fertilizers in the following means:

  • Recognizing the fact that chemical fertilizers are not just harmful to the plants, but as well not eco-friesndly

  • Create more awareness on the environmental negative impacts of chemical fertilizers

  • Supporting livestock farmers for more processing and production of animal wastes for organic fertilizers

Thanks for going through the post. I do appreciate.

Farmers have less fertilizer available, which makes farming more expensive.Rephrase Only a minority of agriculturists can afford fertilization materials, leading to diminished crop output and yield constraints, subsequently jeopardizing sustenance availability and escalating market commodities costs.

Sustained remedies require amplifying local agrochemical output to lessen reliance on external provisions. Governments can give help or programs to small farmers to make buying fertilizer cheaper. Conversely, advocating for the application of domestic organic composts presents a cost-effective and eco-friendly choice for cultivators who are unable to buy foreign artificial nutrients.

Thanks for your input my friend. I appreciate.

Hola amigo
