Mystus cavasius is a native fish of South and Southeast Asia especially in Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Nepal, Myanmar, Thailand, Malaysia, etc.  It is a freshwater fish and is found in rivers, canals, paddy fields, jute fields, ponds, etc. It is omnivorous in nature and sometimes predatory. It has high market demand and high market prices in the South and Southeast Asia. It has also been introduced as an ornamental fish and many fishkeepers keep them as pet.
