It was with great pleasure that I honoured the invitation of @ubongudofot of Steem Solar and Electricals to the launch of the solar installation project at Uyo High School in liaison with Steem Lighting Africa Project.

Uyo High School is a public school situated in the southern part of Nigeria, Akwa Ibom State precisely, in the city of uyo. The school is named after the city and is said to have been founded in the year 1983.

Typical of public schools in my city, there's lag in standards, infrastructure and the likes. And maintenance or restructuring is usually bestowed on kind hearted individuals or alumni's /excos or NGO's. The population in the school is up to a thousand if not more and the amenities available is not enough to cover the student's educational need and promote learning. Hence, the act of charity was highly appreciated and will help to solve lighting problem in the school's computer lab.

Steem Solar and Electricals installed 6 solar panels to the computer department of the school in order to promote effective learning process in the ICT lab and provide 24/7 power supply to the computer systems available for ease with practicals. The choice of installation point shows how much he has the student at mind since it will greatly benefit all students not just the administrators only.

With the high price of fuel in my country, this donation will go a long way to save money spent on purchasing fuel and also see that the students get the practical aspect of computer education at anytime due to constant power supply.

The Launch

Before the launch/handing over started, few students were present to witness the event alongside two vice principal, teacher, few old students and some amazing steemians.

The event started with the regular morning devotions most schools in this region do. After the whole formality, ubongudofot was called to give a short speech by the vice principal, and he implored the students to take good care of the gift and enjoy using their computer lab. And also explained how the donation was materialised. This brought cheering and applause from the students as a means of expressing their appreciation. I could hear the inquisitive ones asking about steem. Quite unfortunate they asked amongst themselves.

Speaking in behalf of the students was the Senior Prefect who promised to ensure that the solar be kept in good shape for a really long time and utilised properly. And also expressed his appreciation to the team for considering their school for such thought donation.

To conclude the launch, the lab attendance was called and briefed on how to operate the solar to ensure longevity and the facility was handed to his care.

This act of selfless service and giving back to the community serves as a means to promoting Steem. I could hear amongst the students asking what steem is. This project will definitely promote around the school and beyond.
I'm honoured to have witnessed such memorable event.
