What factors should be considered when selecting a crop to cultivate ? :

The factors that should be considered when cultivating crops as an agriculturist .While there are many factors but I will talk about some of them ,Which are :

  • Climate and weather conditions.
  • Type of Soil.
  • The demand for the crops in the market.
Climate and weather conditions :

As some crops are ultimately dependent on climatic temperature and also on the weather also some plants also require rainfall to grow :

Temperature :

different crops require proper temperature for growth For example wheat requires cool temperatures In the climate for better growth while crops like rice require warm temperatures in the climate for better growth.

Rainfall :

Crops which are like rice and maize may require continuous rainfall for moisture. But some crops like sorghum are drought-tolerant.

Type of Soil :

There are two type of soil which are given below :

Soil PH :

Soil PH is important for crops because it affects the crops to absorb the minerals (nutrition) for the soil to be better. If the soil of the crops is much acidic or much alkaline then the crops may not get the right minerals that are required for their proper growth. When we know and adjust the soil Ph then it could help the crops to get the nutrients which is good for their proper growth.

Soil Texture :

Soil texture is also important for the growth of the crops because it affects the soil by affecting the how much water and nutrients could the soil holds .The right soil texture is good for the crops because it helps the crops to get the water and nutrients as they want to grow properly and be healthy.

The demand for the crops in the market :

Demand of the local market :

After doing research which crop is most in demand can also let you choose a crop to select that can be much profitable for you because this crop would be in demand in the market (local).

Explain the difference between monoculture and polyculture farming ? :
Monoculture farming
is a type of farming where there is a farmer who grows one type of crop in all area like growing wheat in the whole area which is also easy to manage but it can also lead to the pest diseases and and also there the diseases cause much fastly . In easy words their is one crop and bigger scale and also many chances of diseases like pests.
Polyculture farming
in a type of farming where a farmer grows multiple types of crops together in the same area ,like growing beans and corns and peanuts in a same area .This method is very good because it improves the soil health but there would require much management but it would also be good for the environment.

What are some traditional and modern methods used to enhance crop yield ? :
Traditional methods used to enhance the crop yield :

Crop Rotation :

crop rotation is that when a farmer grows multiple crops in a single field each year means that if he grows beans in the 1st year then in the 2nd year he grow wheat etc. This helps to make the soil healthy and keep the pests away from growing in the soil..

Intercropping :

In intercropping the farmer grows two types of crops in the same yield at the same time means that the farmer grows beans and peanuts together in the same field .In this the plants helps each other by making the soil improved it also keep the pests away .

Organic fertilizers :

In traditional methods the farms do not use chemicals as a fertilizers instead of that they use organic fertilizers like animal waste and rotten plants etc .

Modern methods used to enhance the crop yield :

Drip irrigation :

Drip irrigation is a method in which the water is directly given ti the roots of the plants that helps to give the right amount of water which saves the water from waste .

Greenhouses :

Greenhouses allow the crops to be grow in a maintained (Controlled) environment .

Genetically Modified (GM) Crops :

Genetically modified crop are the crops which arechanged to grow better and also to resist pests .

Thats All :

Thats All I hope that you all like my post .I am inviting @junaidahmed, @bahrol and @saintkelvin17 to participate in this contest if youlike the contest or if you think this contest is easy to be participated then you can participate in the contest.
