What is agriculture, and why is it important for human societies?

Agriculture is the practice of planting different varieties of crops and rearing livestock for human consumption. Individuals who focus on agriculture generate income to support their families in terms of their needs. Many civil servants in Africa engage in farming because they see it as a backup plan to earn additional income.

Important of Agriculture for human societies

1. Job opportunities: Agriculture provides jobs for millions of people around the world, including both the old and young. Agriculture is the kind of
occupation farmers engage in to settle some bill and other unforseen circumstances.
It also provide employment opportunities for transporters by moving farm products to the market.

2. Economy growth: Agriculture increases our economy activities by exporting agricultural products such as cocoa, cassava, potatoes and so on to the foreign countries which later contributes to our economic growth.

3. Food production: Agriculture provides food and livestock for a large number of people, particularly when food scarcity occurs. The food we eat is the result of farmers' efforts. Without agriculture, we may not be able to survive.

4. Herbs: serve as an alternative to drugs for those who may not be able to go to the hospital. They work effectively, and many people use them to treat different kinds of sickness.

What are the main types of agriculture practiced globally (e.g., subsistence, commercial, industrial)?

• Subsistence agriculture: As the name implies, it is the kind of agriculture where farmers cultivate land, plant crops, and rear livestock for family consumption only. It may not be a large farm; individuals engage in it to sustain their families. This particular type of farming only happens in less developed countries, especially in Nigeria.

• Commercial agriculture happens when farmers cultivate a large area of land with the aim of selling it to a large population and making a profit in return. This type of farming improves the economic activities of our country. They also engage in rearing livestock such as goats, sheep, cows, poultry, etc., to generate an additional source of income.

• Industrial agriculture is the type of modern agriculture that involves large-scale processes where farmers use farming methods to cultivate and distribute farm products to consumers.

It's an active ingredients use in cooking oil and It also serves as a source of food for local animals, and its nutritional value is very important to our bodies system, such as carbohydrates, minerals, fiber, etc.

Wheat is another popular crop used by people with diabetes because it doesn't contain sugar. They will mill it into flour, which is used to make different kinds of foods such as bread, biscuits, cake, pasta, and so on.
