Basic Knowledge in Agriculture #9.

in hive-118902 •  yesterday

You all know your steemain @chiagoziee for #Nigeria, a pleasure being here to share my ideas on this contest. The soil is important in making agriculture successful, and we can improve soil fertility by using fertilizers and waste products to enhance fertility.

What are the different soil types and their characteristics (be elaborate)?

Here are the different types of soil that I know and their uses.

  1. Sandy: sand is coarse; it is usually soft and malleable; it is a loose soil that is made of weathered rock, and it is also easy to work with.

  2. Silt: this is a soil with slippery and smooth texture. Silt particles are much easier to compress and help retainer and nutrients.

  3. Loamy: loamy soil has to do with a combination of sand, silt, and clay, which is mostly good for gardening because of its impressive ability to hold moisture.

Explain the agricultural importance of soil.

The soil is essential in agriculture because it helps to create a foundation for growing plants, keeping them upright and making their Roots hold properly. With soil, plants possess the capacity to withstand conditions. With the help of soil, water can be stored for plant use, and the soil preserves the soil for photosynthesis to take place.

The soil is one of the most important things in agriculture; soil helps to store and cycle nutrients and minerals, which can help plants grow. These nutrients are phosphorus, nitrogen, potassium, etc. The soil is also responsible for the provision of oxygen for plants, roots, insects, and microbes. Soil air is important for microorganisms which release nutrients into the soil.

The soil also aids the filtration of contaminants like chemicals out of surface water and dust, making groundwater one of the purest sources of water. The soil also helps in housing some organisms, like earthworms, bacteria, and fungi, which helps plants in growth.

I will like to invite @josepha, @pandora2010, @ahmneska, @saintpaul17, @bonaventure24, @simonnwigwe, @entity01 and @goodybest to participate in this contest.
