Have you ever made donuts? Tell us about your experience.

Yes, I have made doughnuts, and the experience of making doughnuts is a very pleasant one that requires consistency and attention at every stage to achieve the right end product; once there is a mistake at any stage, it causes a change from the ideal end result. In making doughnuts, I sometimes experiment by adding new ingredients to my recipe. While I do that, I make sure the new ingredients do not alter any changes in the process.

Which are your favorites, glazed, sugared or filled?

My favourites are the glazed and filled doughnuts.
The glazed has a sweet taste with a soft texture that comes with a fluffiness, making it pleasant and enjoyable to eat. They are also attractive and appetizing, having a classy look, which can be a good snack for special family gatherings. The filled doughnuts are another of my favourites because of their unique taste, and texture and it has a caramelized sweet taste from the filling in the doughnut such as chocolate, cream and it comes with varieties

Create a donut recipe. You can make the recipe presented in this course or the recipe of your choice (details utensils, ingredients and step by step).

400 gr of all-purpose wheat flour
100 gr of sugar
10 gr of yeast
100 ml of warm liquid milk
2 eggs
60 gr butter
1 tbsp vanilla
1 pinch of salt
Oil for frying
Molten chocolate
Rain of colours, peanuts, fruits

Step by Step
Step 1
I prepared my yeast in a small bowl by adding warm milk and a tablespoon of sugar, stirred very well with a spoon, covered and set aside for 15 minutes.

Step 2
I mixed all the dry ingredients, which comprised all-purpose wheat flour, sugar, a pinch of salt and vanilla powder, in a bowl. I stir with a spatula until it is well mixed.

Step 3
I added my covered and set aside yeast for about 15 minutes, which is now foamy, and beat eggs into the mixed dry ingredients. And mixed them all together to integrate all the ingredients.

Step 4
I added butter and knead with my hands in the bowl. While I kneaded, I sprinkled flour on the dough until it became smooth and elastic, having a uniform dough that was not sticky, I poked with my finger, and it bounced back. After which, I covered and was allowed to rest for 45 minutes.

Step 5
I opened the covered dough for about 45 minutes, and it had doubled in size. I sprinkled flour on my table and spread my dough on the table with a rolling pin and used a cup as my circular cutter to cut out the doughnut circle shape and get a small circular shape to make the hole in the middle which gave it the regular doughnut shape, and I place them on a tray.

Step 6
I placed my frying pan with oil to heat up on a regulated heat. I used a piece of dough to check when the oil was ready and began frying the doughnuts. After frying, I allowed the doughnuts to cool.

Step 7
I melted my chocolate with butter and added a little water to help them thin out. I dipped my doughnuts into the melted chocolate and covered the doughnut top with it, then added my topping of peanuts, sprinkles, fruits and Sugar differently.

The topping gave the doughnut an attractive look, which I liked. I have never made doughnuts this way, doing it for the first time, and it came out nice.

Did you have any difficulties making your doughnuts?

I had no difficulty because I had knowledge of making doughnuts before now, and the teacher gave a clearer explanation, to which I added some tips to my knowledge. For example, Before now, I had problems with time management, but with the teaching, I kept to the exact timing, like covering and allowing the yeast mixture for 15 minutes and allowing the dough for 45 minutes. With this, I did not rush the process like I have done before. So it all made the process easy and gave a good result.

Do you have any special tips for making donuts? Share them.
  • Vegetable Oil can be used in place of butter, and the dough will also turn out nice.

  • Nutmeg can be added to your ingredients to give a delicious taste to your doughnuts.

  • Dough should not be allowed to overstay before frying as it will make your doughnuts shrink when frying and absorb more oil.
