Greetings hello everyone nice to write on this platform again, this is a new week, today is Monday at least from this part of the country Nigeria, 9/9/2024, just as you all know this is the first week of the SEC | S20W1, it promise's to be very fun and exciting.

I love everything related to food, as we all need food for our daily survival as a people or as person's for survival, without food trust me there would be mal-nutrition in the land not forgetting starvation.

In general food is crucial for any individual to survive on earth, I'm so excited because this topic is lined up to explore thing's related to agriculture, let's get the ball rolling guy's.

We just first understand the concept of Agriculture, for me personally I will define agriculture as the planting of crops and rearing of animals for man's use, this is a simple definition, the man used in this contest compromises of man, and Woman.

Agriculture involves planting just as I have highlighted, and in general planting of crops are seasonal, meaning various crops has its various seasons that best suites it, just as they say there is time for everything and in everything there is a season.

The time and season meant for the planting of maize, is quiet different compared to the season meant for the planting of casava stem, although depending on the geographical dispensation of the area, I know various person's From different countries are reading this post as we speak, so it's very necessary to state this.

After planting in the phase of productivity there are lots of challenges down below I will be discussing and highlighting in details how productivity is affected by climate change.

When the planet earth has experienced long term warming then climate change takes center stage, this is perhaps caused by some high level greenhouse gases which are.

GasesMethane
FormulaCH4
Carbon dioxideCO2

These two powerful gases drags lot's of heat content from the sun, which is the primary source of energy and prevents the heat from been transmitted back to the space, this lead's to high level of temperature rise.

And increase in temperature affects the quality of the produce that will come to harvest at the tail end of the day, where there is high level of temperature crop's been planted is basically affected all round, although climate change isn't all about high level of temperature rise.

I can also attribute it to the changes in the atmospheric condition of a place and the weather patterns, just as we know in various countries the weather patterns differs, considering the seasonal dispensation in the looking.

Climate change, weather patterns don't only affect productivity, it also have a great impact on the lives of we the humans as well, never minding your place of residence, just as I have highlighted there are patterns to this.

Agricultural productivity is Affected majorly by climate change Through

  • Deforestation= This is purely the total clearing of the forest for agricultural purposes, when all the bushes are been cleared and burned CO2 gas one thing happen's carbon sinks is been affected, perhaps is been reduced, just as you will agree with me forest itself function's as carbon sinks when it comes to the production of Cash crop's.

  • Agriculture= When various Animal products are been produced e.g beef, meat, etc one thing happen's there is release of CH4gas and the Nitrous oxides, back to the atmospheric, these two gases are often regarded as greenhouse gases they are very crucial when it comes to agricultural productivity.

CH4 gas, CO2, and Nitrous oxides are very key as when they are been released to the atmosphere must cause climate changes, that will affect productivity.

  • Extinguishment of biodiversity= When plants and animal species are damaged, agricultural productivity will be greatly damage, and this will lead to extinction of various plants and animal's,

Whenever there are looses of plants and animal species then production will be thrown into the mud, as in general just as I have defined agriculture as to been the planting of crop's and rearing of animals for man's use.

It have to be for the benefit of the living (Man) God himself have given Man dominion over all, every living thing on Earth.

Discuss how extreme rains and extreme droughts damage crops.

C3TZR1g81UNaPs7vzNXHueW5ZM76DSHWEY7onmfLxcK2iPeEoNVGbpcZGEKQq8VaT6hYkYtKYLeoEctx3fgdGJH1H3Ztab45BFSQeHGm4Jbm6u157mp4XyQ.png

Before we go Into the basics of this wonderful discussion we should understand what is rainfall, basically I will say rainfall occurs naturally and is caused by what we call hydrologic cycle.

Water from the river, lakes, goes back into the tin air (Evaporation) there by forming what is called water vapor, when it cools down then we are bond to have condensation, as the temperature reduces then rainfall commences.

Rainfall is very important to plants, animal's and humans as well, plants generally needs rain-fall for proper functionality take a look at the seed I planted at my backyard, as the plant gets water all the time take a look at how it's looking like.

IMG_20240909_082753_201.jpg

just as our people say excess of everything is bad, in this case when rain falls or drought occurs in excess certain things happens these Includes.

Extreme Rainfall.

C3TZR1g81UNaPs7vzNXHueW5ZM76DSHWEY7onmfLxcK2iPeEoNVGbpcZGEKQq8VaT6hYkYtKYLeoEctx3fgdGJH1H3Ztab45BFSQeHGm4Jbm6u157mp4XyQ.png

  1. Flooding= Whenever rain falls in excess water gathers thereby accumulating in various forms, thereby causing the reduction in oxygen of the amount of oxygen needed by plants for consumption, remember plants needs oxygen for photosynthesis, this will affect the quality of yield, and there will be diseases among crop's.

  2. Erosion= when the rain-fall is in excess erosion happen's which leads to the removal of the top soil, thereby diplating the quality of nutrient contains in the soil, this lead's to a total damage of crops in a long run farm produce, when crops are damaged there is a loss of economic valuables.

  3. Delayed Planting schedule= Whenever rain fall's often then naturally planting schedule will be affected, and this will lead to the quality of productivity, just as I will say climate change isn't just about temperature, Changes of weather pattern is very critical and crutial.

Extreme drought.

C3TZR1g81UNaPs7vzNXHueW5ZM76DSHWEY7onmfLxcK2iPeEoNVGbpcZGEKQq8VaT6hYkYtKYLeoEctx3fgdGJH1H3Ztab45BFSQeHGm4Jbm6u157mp4XyQ.png

When there is a low low amount of rainfall in a region or a place then we can say that area is experiencing drought, it's basically an unavailable of rainfall due to the atmospheric pattern of a place at the available time.

Drought can happen at any part of the world, in Nigeria here, we usually experience drought in the northern part of the country, it's a natural climate pattern, extreme drought damage crops through.

IMG_20240909_082926_313.jpg

IMG_20240909_082919_481.jpg

  1. Disease pressure= when drought occurs plants don't enjoy that natural water it is basically used to by so doing crops are affected by all Kinds of diseases, increase in pests, this will basically reduce the quality of yield.

  2. Water-Stress= drought reduces photosynthesis in plants, diplits the quality of yields, and twarts the full fluidity of farm produce overall all. When this happens it in most cases leads to a loss in economic investment, remember crops are mostly been bought before getting deployed into the farm.

  3. Soil Diplation= When soil gets diplated it reducing the quality of yield that will be produced, this is basically caused by a prolonged drought by so doing affecting soil moisture in the long run.

C3TZR1g81UNaPs7vzNXHueW5ZM76DSHWEY7onmfLxcK2iPeEoNVGbpcZGEKQq8VaT6hYkYtKYLeoEctx3fgdGJH1H3Ztab45BFSQeHGm4Jbm6u157mp4XyQ.png

Discuss in stages how new pests and diseases are emerging as a result of climate change AND what measures farmers can take to prevent them.

C3TZR1g81UNaPs7vzNXHueW5ZM76DSHWEY7onmfLxcK2iPeEoNVGbpcZGEKQq8VaT6hYkYtKYLeoEctx3fgdGJH1H3Ztab45BFSQeHGm4Jbm6u157mp4XyQ.png

High precipitation pattern tends to accelerate the frequency of a weather condition within a stipulated time-frame, also putting into cognizant the geographical dispensation of an area.

Different geographical zone/area, has different environmental conductivity as to the emergence of new pest 🦟🦟 and diseases at a particular time, pest are very harmful to the development of crop's and the overall quality of produce.

I will discuss in details how new pest and diseases emerges, check ✅✅ it down below.

  1. Increase in Temperature= An increase in temperature, a rise in temperature lead's to the rise of insect pests, also it leads to the verve, frequency as to how the spreading of diseases takes center stage.

  2. High Water Frequency= When there is an increase in high water frequency like Flood and drought disaster, reptiles seems to roar around the farm's where crops are planted, this will lead to environmental disaster, which will cost economic downtrend.

  3. Human Kinetic= kinetic involves human activities, like trade, travel etc, this in all facets, this affects the unwilling spread of pest and diseases, Take a look at a variety of farm where farmers make their planting, and lot's of travel, probably vehicles moving to-and-fro, you will understand that the crop's will totally be affected.

Preventive Measure.

C3TZR1g81UNaPs7vzNXHueW5ZM76DSHWEY7onmfLxcK2iPeEoNVGbpcZGEKQq8VaT6hYkYtKYLeoEctx3fgdGJH1H3Ztab45BFSQeHGm4Jbm6u157mp4XyQ.png

There are various means farmers can take to mitigate the spread of disease, for a healthy development of crop's overall, let's exploit most of the Preventive Measure.

  1. Chemical Control= This involves the application of some biological chemicals to mitigate, the spread of pest and disease, pest population requires voluminous application of insecticides.

  2. Cultural Control= This basically has to do with ethnicity, culture and traditional way's of pest control, this involves sanitation, thinning, in my culture this means is used to mitigate the spread of pest and diseases.

  3. Crop Rotation= This is attributed to bush fallowing, whereby place of planting is allowed for a stipulated various of time, when crop's are been rotated it reduces the outbreak of diseases.

C3TZR1g81UNaPs7vzNXHueW5ZM76DSHWEY7onmfLxcK2iPeEoNVGbpcZGEKQq8VaT6hYkYtKYLeoEctx3fgdGJH1H3Ztab45BFSQeHGm4Jbm6u157mp4XyQ.png

Discuss what changes in irrigation systems are required due to climate change.

C3TZR1g81UNaPs7vzNXHueW5ZM76DSHWEY7onmfLxcK2iPeEoNVGbpcZGEKQq8VaT6hYkYtKYLeoEctx3fgdGJH1H3Ztab45BFSQeHGm4Jbm6u157mp4XyQ.png

Looking at Nigeria as a country for instance, you will agree with me that climate change is perhaps altering precipitation, I live in Nigeria so I know what I'm talking about.

Irrigation must undergo some certain transformation in order to impact on agricultural changes world-wide, below I listed some changes and they Include.

  1. Water Technology= The world is transforming, there are lots of technology in the world today, mechanize farming and all those stuff's, this includes sprinkling system, and precision irrigation, this form of irrigation will basically help to minimize the level of water waste.

  2. Crop Breeding= This involves the promotion of some specific kind of crop that breed's very well during drought, and heat stress, crop breeding help to also helps to Forester climate resilient.

  3. Soil Conservation= This involves mulching, tilling of the soil in order to minimize the quality of soil Erosion, thereby improving soil health, For me loamy soil remain's the best type of soil for planting.

These are three most important irrigation method's required when we talk about climate change and irrigation, You might have other one's, but for me this three are very much important.

C3TZR1g81UNaPs7vzNXHueW5ZM76DSHWEY7onmfLxcK2iPeEoNVGbpcZGEKQq8VaT6hYkYtKYLeoEctx3fgdGJH1H3Ztab45BFSQeHGm4Jbm6u157mp4XyQ.png

Explain the two best ways to respond to climate change.

C3TZR1g81UNaPs7vzNXHueW5ZM76DSHWEY7onmfLxcK2iPeEoNVGbpcZGEKQq8VaT6hYkYtKYLeoEctx3fgdGJH1H3Ztab45BFSQeHGm4Jbm6u157mp4XyQ.png

Going straight to the point the two best possible ways to respond to climate changes are as follows

  1. mitigation and

  2. Adaptation

Explaining In Details.

C3TZR1g81UNaPs7vzNXHueW5ZM76DSHWEY7onmfLxcK2iPeEoNVGbpcZGEKQq8VaT6hYkYtKYLeoEctx3fgdGJH1H3Ztab45BFSQeHGm4Jbm6u157mp4XyQ.png

Whenever the word mitigation is mentioned one-thing comes to mind, (Reduction) mitigation is basically a means whereby greenhouse gases are been reduced as per the transmission voluminously which involves the so much greenhouse gases that is been transmitted into the atmosphere, this is one of the major cause of climate change.

One of the safest and easiest ways to mitigate climate change is the transformation of what we call renewable energy, as this helps in increasing the level of energy efficiency, this takes center stage through the following's.

  • Carbon pricing

  • introduction of galvanized hydro-electric power plants.

  • Improving energy transformation, and efficiency.

Adaptation.

C3TZR1g81UNaPs7vzNXHueW5ZM76DSHWEY7onmfLxcK2iPeEoNVGbpcZGEKQq8VaT6hYkYtKYLeoEctx3fgdGJH1H3Ztab45BFSQeHGm4Jbm6u157mp4XyQ.png

Adaptation is all about preparation for the climate change, which may occur anytime e.g rise in Sea water, and more occurrence of various natural disaster's, just as you will agree with me weather patterns differs courtesy the geographical location of a place at any point in time, there are various different adaptation patterns which includes.

  • Promotion of a sustainable ecosystem.

  • Early preparedness for early any disaster (Extreme water Overflow).

  • Implementation of Agricultural productivity practice.

  • Building infrastructure to overshed climate resilience.

Looking at the various things listed you will agree with me that government has a lots of roles to play, in order to address and mitigate unwalving urgency that emernates from climate crisis.

Individual's can't do this Alone, as we need a collaborative effort, from the civil society, investors, business minded people, the high and mighty in the society, generally all hand's must be on deck to achieving this.

Conclusion.

C3TZR1g81UNaPs7vzNXHueW5ZM76DSHWEY7onmfLxcK2iPeEoNVGbpcZGEKQq8VaT6hYkYtKYLeoEctx3fgdGJH1H3Ztab45BFSQeHGm4Jbm6u157mp4XyQ.png

Many Thanks to the steemit team organizing this wonderful SEC, SWO this is just the week one, we keep blogging and hopefully we all will smile together, I have highlighted key and importance of climate changes and it's mitigation standards.

I have discussed every sub heading in details, please note all image's used belongs to me, no sourced imagine, no copyright Free source, to build a sustainable ecosystem we need agriculture, just as I defined it.

We can't go beyond planting of crops and rearing of animals for man's use, everything is centralized for the benefit of Man, for man's use. Course of this contest I invite @dove11, @pandora2010, and @alejos7ven.
