Hello everyone, I'm excited to write today again, this is a brown New day that the Lord has made we are alive to blog, all glory is to God almighty, for without him we are nobody.
Today is the second week, week(2) if this wonderful SEC, looking at the course today I was super excited reason been that the lecture is centralized on agricultural related things.
I love agriculture so much as it involves the planting of crops and rearing of animals for man's use or usage. let's get down to business.
What is the method of rice seedbed preparation and what steps are taken in preparing the soil for rice cultivation.
Let's get to know about rice seedbeed before we can talk about the importance, Rice seedbeed is a set aside portion of a soil within our locality where seeds are planted, this seeds are allowed to grow, before they can be officially transfered or transplanted to a garden, look at the image below for proper understanding.
Looking at the image above you will observe a large portion of space was allocated, not consisting only the seed but also it consist of Cold frame, this is in no doubt used to raise various beds that perhaps will be used while growing seedling's.
Preparation's.
In preparing rice seedbed so many steps and consideration's has to be put in-place in order maximize the total growth and proper development of rice grains before it will be taken to the garden for planting, let's begin with the step by step methods involve, for seedbed preparation we have.
Allocation= Proper area is needed for selection, a well leveled place has to be chosen so as to prevent erosion from washing everything away, you need a drained arena with constant water supply.
Tilling= tilling of the soil, for me I prefer loamy soil as it is regarded as the best soil for planting, till the soil till it gets to 15-20cm.
Uniformity= there needs to be uniformity of the outer soil surface, this involves levelling the outer surface of the soil for smooth and eazy running, of the soil moisture.
Application of organic products= This involves the process whereby fertilizer's and decayed organic reserves are been applied for the growth and development of rice seedlings.
Soil preparation for Rice Rice Cultivation.
Before rice Cultivation takes center stage there are some basic preparation's that needs to be put in check ✅✅ they are as follows.
- Ridge preparation= dig a ridge of about 20-25cm depth, before planting your rice as this will help the grains to find momentum as they grow as it helps to retain water, here you need 20-25cm depth but for the seedbed preparation you need about 15-20cm, take note, take a look at the image below to see how ridges was done.
Flooding and drought= Never prepare prepare rice Cultivation in a drought prom area, rice germination do well in a water region, so what you need to do is to flood the depth in a region of about 6-12cm, this will help give the soil lividity of softness and water can be transmitted to the rice grains.
Application of Fertilizers= Apply fertilizer's and some insecticides to kill off some pests, fertilizer's will aid the growth of the rice, and further more apply lot's of fowl food's thus you can say proper organic manure.
What is the importance of planting rice seeds at the right time?
There is time for everything and in everything there is a season, planting of rice has a season and a timeframe, if you plant rice outside it's scheduled time-frame there will be low courtesy the quality of the produce in the end, below are the various important of planting rice seed at the right time, they are as follows.
Mitigation of Disease 🪰🪰= When you plant on time, it will help mitigate the level at which pest and diseases will affect your rice, thereby your plant will maintain quality healthy.
Maturity= When you plant at the right time, when time for harvest starts your produce will be very matured for human consumption, as that is the main motive of agriculture.
Reduction of Soil Erosion= When you plant on time your rice grains will grow up, so Even if erosion comes your plants will be free from washing away and in the end good produce will come forth.
How is regular irrigation and fertilizer applied after sowing rice seeds?
After you are done planting rice seeds, trust me regular irrigation method, and fertilization is very important for proper growth and development of your plant, below are the overall outline, first I start with Irrigation.
Yield Flooding= After planting flooding is key because rice needs lot's of water for proper germination that is why is usually planted at river sides, at least in the next 24 hours everyday 2-3cm of water is needed for effective growth.
Transplanting= before you transplant you need flood your planting space for two or three day's before you transplant, why is this recommended, is simple to give the group more softness to grow grain's speedily.
Acceleration stage= During growing stage after planting or transplanting must have occured you the deepness of the flood, in order for it to accumulate more water, which is needed by the crop for germination.
Fertilization.
- Apply any form of fertilizer to aid you crop growth, basal fertilizer can be considered, you can check out for many other types, below is a video of a man applying basil fertilizer putting it directly into the farm.
Spray= This involves the process whereby micro-nutrient is been spreaded round the farm space, this usually happens at the point of growth perhaps I will say during growing stage.
Growing stage= At this stage, after the application of fertilizer it should be left for growth for about 2-3 week's, so as to allow the crops been planted have a breathing space.
What are the major pests and diseases of rice crops, and how can they be controlled?.
There are many pest and diseases of rice crops, this diseases hinders the development of of rice crops from producing good and quality yield's', below are some which are common, below we have.
Rice Bug/bees.
Rice Hispid.
Plant hopper.
Grasshopper.
Bacteria.
Tungro virus
Rhizoctonia.etc
The Above listed diseases, hinders the overall development of rice yield, when the quality of yield is affected it will Lead to economic decline and loss in capital.
Control Measure's.
Pest and diseases can be controlled and better managed by so many processes, below are some vividly highlighted below.
Application of pesticides= This are chemical's that kills pests and diseases, when you buy it, read the instructions and follow the procedure's, for example it can be indicated you spray in the morning, follow the procedures, don't spray in the afternoon.
Traditional practices= This practice's are cultural, in most cultures they have specific timing's for planting, when planting is done at the right time it will help to control pests and diseases.
Crop Rotation/Bush Fallowing= When crops are been rotated which involves the planting of various crops at different timeframe, it will reduce the quantity of diseases that will affect the yield's, also you need leave the bush to mature very well thereby recovering lot's of nutritional values.
What are the next steps after harvesting the paddy and what are the steps to be taken to preserve the paddy?
After harvesting the paddy there are some important things to take into consideration which are as follows.
Grading= This involves a selective process which precides over thereby selecting various grains according to their various sizes.
Reduction= This process is very crutial as it involves the total reduction considering the moisture content to a range of about 20-25cm in order to prevent decay.
Separation= This simple involves the process of separating the grains from some unwanted chaff.
Preservation of the paddy.
Looking at Paddy preservation, we have to consider the long, and short term procedures for the short term we are looking at the range of about 6 months, what we need do are stated below which are ad follows
- Content/Moisture control= in her you need an elongated moisture content of about 13-15%.
insect/disease control= you need regular application of insecticides In order to kill of the unwanted pests and diseases.
Storage= you need in a very conducive environment, more of a well ventilated dry arena.
Conclusion.
This is a wonderful topic trust me I really learnt Alot, thank you.
Navigating this course I hinted on the fact that seedbed cmis is defined as to the process of nurturing grain's before it can be taken the the garden or field for planting or before transplanting.
Planting rice grains you need a watery environment, meaning rice does really well in a place where there are lots of water content, your dear not plant rice in a drought prome area.
