Welcome to my blog, I'm someone that always carve for corn season to my greatest surprise the type of climate change we had this year made it so difficult for farmers to enjoy their hard labor. Let's look at the Impact of the climate change on Agriculture.

Describe in detail how agricultural productivity is affected by climate change.

Climate change play important role in agricultural production. For crop to grow it needs water and in a situation where there is no rain for a period of time the agriculture space will be affected as the crops cannot grow. In a region where there is no river or even artificial source of water for irrigation the farmers find it very difficult to grow crops and in such case agricultural productivity reduces making to experience hunger and famine in the land.

Discuss how extreme rains and extreme droughts damage crops.

Although crops need water to survive but when the soil is over saturated with water it causes damages to some crops, for instance water leaf and casava stems will begin to decay and in that process it can't be productive and when there is a long time drought the crops will equally be affected as the soil will be without moisture and this causes damages to crops that needs water for photosynthesis. For example cutworm caterpillar hide in the soil by day and attack plants at night, all this is happening because the soil is wet and soft as a result and in the other way round when there is drought every leaf will be dry and pest like spider mites and white fly increases as they flourish in dry and they feed from the dry leaves. Also this causes a serious damage to crops and reduces productivity.

Discuss in stages how new pests and diseases are emerging as a result of climate change AND what measures farmers can take to prevent them.

Some Pests and diseases emerges as a result of climate change, for instance pest like caterpillar comes out when there is rain for a long period of time and there are pests that feeds from the green leaves

The measures farmers need to put in place to protect his crops is to apply chemicals like insecticide that can kill the pest and introduce fertilizer to the crops to make it grow and boost productivity and food supply.

Using good seedlings while planting. Some farmers are ignorant of infected seedlings or crops , if infected seedlings are being planted there are possibilities that it will not be fruitful.

Discuss what changes in irrigation systems are required due to climate change.

The changes in irrigation require due to climate change is the method where farmers use to make sure that water is sufficient to the crop, this may involve pumping water from the water body or digging a borehole in the farm to enable him feed the crops with enough water the need for photosynthesis and growth.

Explain the two best ways to respond to climate change.

The best way to respond to climate change is :

  • Knowing the type of crops to plant at a particular season. A good farmer must be able to study the season that suits with each type of crops. For example vegetable can not survive in drought and also water leaf cannot survive during rain season. As such farmers should know the appropriate weather that will give good harvest to them.

  • Providing the necessary means of irrigation when planting crop during drought. Like I mentioned above, if planting the crop that need water to grow, the farmer have to make sure he provides water to the crops each by springing or channeling it through a water body to feed his farm.

No farmer deserves to loose his or her crops because of climate change, Or Should farmers stop production because climate change? No . We all need wisdom and making sure our Forest or farms are free from pest and diseases.

I know my friends will like to participate,I'm inviting @sahmie @stef1 @shiftitamanna

Observations and suggestions:

. I was just waiting to read the details on climate change impacts; you ended the task. I hope you will be more detailed the next time.
. However, you also have a good knowledge base as you clearly explained how extreme rains and droughts impact agricultural productivity
. Your views on emerging new pests and diseases are also in line, but I could not get any clarity on your handling of irrigation systems...

. Generally, you have made a good publication.
Thank you for your participation. We hope to see you in week 2.😊

Correction noted. I will definitely improve and be more detailed in my week 2entry.

For agriculture to thrive, there is need for climatic stability, that is,seasonal rainfall and sunshine etc
In adverse climatic change, farmers can irrigate their farms, cultivate suitable seedlings in appropriate season, apply insecticide/pesticides to get rid of insects/pests in the farm and provide fertilizers to boost farm produce.
"... no farmer deserves to loose his or her crops because of climate change"
Wao!I like that extract,more grace.

Agricultural produce this year has been a thing of worrisome in such a way that, farmers complain bitterly about the decrease in outputs of their inputs this
year. Late rainfall was the major issue where crops that were cultivated in January lack sufficient rainfall to bud. Just as you are saying, the cause of the late rainfall is climate change. You have carefully put your ideas aright on this . Success in the contest

I'm grateful to read your feedback on my post that alot. I hope you will join the challenge. Can't wait to see your entry .

Upvoted. Thank You for sending some of your rewards to @null. It will make Steem stronger.

Hello @okere-blessing your post has every detail new of this year harvesting, farmers has low insufficient income in plant due to one thing or the other, when I was waiting patiently to eat corn i could rearly see it because of the pest affecting it and this also lead to the low income of the farmers. When we ask our villagers to bring corn for us the said pest has really eaten it, hmmmmmmmmmm. I really enjoy reading your contest😄.

Thanks so much ,I appreciate your kind words
