Share your any experience of your life, in which you faced the emergency that could be handled by your own only if you know the basic first response skills. (2 marks)

It turned out that my sister's son had found a box of matches and started the fire. I felt heartbroken, that was because he wasn't getting enough attention, which led him to do this. The fire began spreading little by little until it's flame caught up my closet.

I saw some polyester dresses catch fire quickly, burning from the bottom up. I was in a panic feeling like it was all a dream. The fire extended to the next room and was about to get the closet down, until I remembered the fire extinguisher we had at home. I returned with the extinguisher and I didn't know how to use it while my mom and sister panicked.

It was a disastrous moment because everyone including myself was confused on what to do. As we stood watching and shouting for help, the fire escalated and it was worse. The fire destroyed so many things because I didn't know what to do neither do my mom or sister. As we couldn't do anything and the little help others offered, was not enough, we lost everything including the building. A neighbor had already called the fire service for help but before they got to the scene, it was already a disaster.

Fire disaster is an awful moment and a very tragic one. If I had the basic knowledge, I would have known what other things to do even as I used the extinguisher.

Imagine you are walking back home, when you witness a road traffic accident between a car and a motorcycle, and the motorcyclist is lying on the road, not moving. There’s some bleeding from his leg, and he appears to be unconscious. You being the first responder, how will you manage this scenario? (1.5 marks) (2 marks)

I would follow this response plan to handle the situation.

First, I need to check for any dangers. My safety is crucial as the first responder, and we can't have two people hurt at the same time. I should be aware of any hazardous items, fast-moving vehicles, or anything else that could pose a risk to me. My safety must come first.

Next, I need to see if the victim is awake and aware. I can approach the victim and gently tap their face or shoulder, or I can ask questions like, "Can you hear me?" If they respond, I should reassure them that they are safe and encourage them to stay strong. At this point, I need to ask someone to call for emergency services, or I can do it myself, making sure to explain the situation so they know what equipment to bring. As a first responder, I should be familiar with my country's emergency contact number. If there is no response from the victim, I will move on to the next step.

I need to ensure the airway is clear by using the head-tilt and chin-lift method which is to carefully tilt his head back and lift the chin to open the airway. I will look for any blockages in the throat or mouth that could be obstructing it. I must keep the airway clear until help arrives.

Next, I will check for breathing. I need to see if his heart is beating and if his chest is moving up and down. It's important to confirm he is breathing normally and that the airway remains open. If he isn't breathing well, I will perform CPR to assist him.

Finally, I will check for circulation. I need to examine his body for any serious bleeding. Since he is already bleeding from his leg, I will apply firm pressure to the wound with a clean cloth. I need to wait for the emergency service team to arrive so I can give them a quick update on what happened and the care I provided. I also need to calm the bystanders, reminding them that rushing can cause mistakes.
