"SLC21/WK2: Mastering CPR | A Comprehensive Guide to Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation"

in hive-118902 •  17 days ago

Hello friends, welcome to my blog. It is going to be another round of giving back what we've learned this second week. Let's get started...

1000284092.jpgdesigned in canva
Perform all steps of CPR on a mannequin (your productivity) and explain each and every step in detail. Teach CPR to only 3 people (may it be your family, friends, relatives, or fellow mates, and attach pictures of you teaching them)(Edited- if you don’t have a mannequin, use a firm pillow or stack of towels)

Ceteris paribus (everything been equal), which means that my safety and that of the mannequin are guaranteed, and the mannequin is not also responsive after breathing is not confirmed. That is to say, I should also be asking someone from the mob to call for an emergency. This would quickly take me into performing CPR on the victim.

20241104_140159.jpgDemostrating CPR

Since my mannequin is an adult, therefore standard procedure for adult CPR is initiated. I will kneel just right to the mannequin with my right hand placed on the chest with the heel of the hand just half down the breastbone. I should also be placing the left hand on top of the right hand, interlocking the fingers together. It is best we use this pattern for chest compression so as not to quickly get tired. We could be a little vocal while counting compressions given to stay agile. (Recommended is 100 to 120 compressions per minute).

While carrying out the CPR, I shouldn't forget my DRABC protocol. At this time, I should check for the airways to confirm there are no obstructions in the airways. Head and chin tilting should be done to be certain.

Rescue breaths are sparingly done. People are skeptical if the victim isn't a relative to perform this task. This may be aligned with hygiene issues or the present condition of the victims of bleeding or salivating. However, if it is done, I should be able to close the close and breathe through the mouth. The mouth should be closed to avoid loss of air or oxygen.

The use of AED should be used when available. Since I do not have anyone here with me, I should be concentrating on my CPR alone.

20241104_140943.jpgTeachings on CPR
How to perform CPR on pregnant ladies, obese people, and weak older people; write modifiable procedures for each in detail.

These categories of people are delicate persons and hence would amount to adjusting the standardized approach in handling an adult CPR protocol. We should be looking at the position on the floor, the type of compression given, the breathing or ventilation procedure, and hand positioning. These are all a little tilting away from the standard CPR procedure.

ModificationPregnant WomenObeseWeak Elderly
PositioningPregnant women requiring CPR should be placed with their back on the ground with legs elevated above inchesShould be laid on a firm and smooth surfaceThey should be placed with their back on the ground but with a pillow under their head
Chest CompressionsThe same Compression module for nonpregnant persons should be applied.2-inch compression recoil protocol for adultsWe need a deeper compression module here to get a similar result. About 3 inches compression recoil protocol to be usedMild compression procedure lower than 2 inches should be used to avoid fractures.
Breathing/VentilationUnlike the 1 breathe per second standard procedure, we are to give 2 breaths per secondWe are to also provide 2 breathes per second but with higher volume and pressure2 breathes per second is also required but with lower pressure given
Hand positioningPregnant women's hands should be placed on their top chest to measure up with the enlarged uterusThis is the same with pregnant women, but because of their enlarged chestthe hand should be placed at the center of the chest.
Additional support /Machinery usemay consider the use of defibrillators earlierconsider mechanical chest compressorconsider CPR device audio prompts
Write an explanation for all the mistakes people make during CPR, as we highlighted in the class topic.
  1. Inadequate chest compression pressure. We may be lacking in this as per the recommended pressure inches required and recoil observance. When we apply the chest pressure, sometimes we don't allow the chest to recoil.

  2. The Rescuer may be either too fast or too slow in applying heat compression aside from the pressure given above. The recommended speed should vary between 100 to 120 compression per minute.

  3. Wrong hand position during CPR. We may wrongly place them on the chest other than half below the breastbone. Or maybe have a long or short arm position.

  4. Act of not giving up during CPR despite fatigue. This causes poor pressure pumps on the chest which doesn't serve the purpose.

  5. Stopping CPR at little sign of body movement. This, most times, reverses the already achieved mileage.

  6. Trying to carry CPR on a foamy or soft spot. This defeats the goal of rightful chest compression.

Plan a simple campaign to raise awareness about CPR in your community. Write down the main goal of your campaign, who you want to reach (your target audience), and the key messages you want to share. Think about how you can spread the word (like using social media or holding a community event). Your plan should be clear and include a basic timeline showing when you will do each part of the campaign. (You only have to devise a working plan and not practically implement it.)

Campaign to raise awareness about CPR in your community

Campaign Name: "Xkool24 Cardio CPR Community Awareness"

Main Campaign Goal:
My primary goal for this campaign is to increase awareness of CPR, its importance, and how. It could be done to save lives.

My Target Audience:
a. I will be looking after adults from 18 years and above.
b. Those with prerequisite health experiences like caregivers and social homes,
c. Business and community clusters

Key Messages:
a. CPR is easy to learn
b. CPR is effective
c. Anyone of different ages can carry our CPR
d. CPR can bring back nearly lost lives
e. CPR is the first aid for cardiac emergencies

Campaign Strategy/Medium of Awareness:
This would be a quarter intervention campaign that would cover at least 3 calendar months.

  • I will be effectively using the social media platforms
  • Door to Door and contact information dissemination
  • Media and other promotional hypes
  • Hands-on Training event

Social Media Hypes (week 1 & 2)
Most social media platforms would be used, especially Facebook, with far-reaching audiences. This would tailored to the locality to be used. This would be done through sound and attractive key messages, not forgetting infographics and hashtags.

Face to Face ground campaign (week 3 & 4)
This is where I have to maximize the use of fliers, brochures, and physical information tools. Visit social homes and local health facilities, especially striking partnership deals.

Media and other Promotion hypes (week 5 & 6)
The use of electronic information centers like the local radio and stations within coverage areas and the use of eye-catching banners.

Hands-on Event & Trainings (7 & 12 weeks)
At this point, all contacted stakeholders, including partnered social homes, healthcare centers, community dwellers, etc., are assembled for training and hands-on demonstration. There may be difficulty assembling all stakeholders at the same time, hence the need to have more week's allocation to host different training sessions.

In my budgeting plan for these different timelines,.I should be working with the limited resources in my coffers. This campaign may gulp about 250,000 Naira which is approximately 1000 steem value. Each of the given times would be allowed 250 steem, including the cost for miscellaneous.

Design a simple infographic (Illustration) that summarizes the basic steps of CPR for adults, children, and infants, including why CPR is important, and list situations when CPR might be needed (like drowning or heart attacks).

Student Name: @xkool24
Overall Grade: 7.6/10

Plagiarism Check: Pass
AI Use: No

QuestionWhat the Student Did WellAreas for ImprovementGrading
Question 1The student provided a clear, step-by-step explanation of CPR with DRABC protocol on a mannequin, including proper hand placement, compression depth, and timing/rate. According to the question, the use of images enhanced the understanding of their practice and sharing knowledge with peers. While the explanation was detailed, the student could have added the checking for a pulse (important aspect before opting for CPR), maintaining a safe environment (an important component of DRABC) and understanding possible complications like rib fractures during CPR. Including these points would give a more comprehensive view of real-life challenges during CPR.1.7/2
Question 2The student mentioned modifications for performing CPR on pregnant women, obese individuals, and elderly patients, highlighting changes in positioning, compression depth, and ventilation. The explanations reflected a solid understanding of adapting CPR to different body types and conditions, the chart format is a good approach to clearly mentioning the differences.Although the importance of early defibrillator use in these scenarios and mentioning tools like mechanical chest compressors for better support should be added to the context for better understanding.1.8/2
Question 3The student perfectly described common mistakes in CPR, such as improper hand positioning, insufficient compression depth, and not maintaining a steady compression rate. The explanation covered a variety of typical errors and their consequences. But the question was write the explanation of all the mistakes people do while doing CPR, this question include both aspects why these acts are categorized as mistakes, like why the speed should be 100-120 compressions/min, why it can’t be done on a slower of faster rate and second aspect why people do such mistakes, how can be these avoided? Student didn’t focus on any of them. Student has only highlighted the few mistakes (not all, that were mentioned in the module), but the explanation why are these called mistakes is not mentioned in the homework.1.2/2
Question 4The student developed a good and complete layout for CPR awareness campaign, clearly identifying the targeted audience, key messages, and the use of social media and other media platforms. The timeline is organized and doable, showing a strong approach to spreading awareness. To improve, the campaign could focus more on partnerships with local healthcare providers or first aid trainers to enhance training events. A clear detail on budget and resource allocation would’ve strengthened the plan.1.7/2
Question 5The student created an engaging and clear infographic summarizing CPR steps for different age groups. The use of Canva enhanced its visual appeal, and the steps were easy to follow. The infographic could be improved by adding more specific scenarios where CPR is necessary, such as its not during drowning or during trauma or during electric shock, but after drowning when one has been brought to land. A clearer distinction between the CPR steps for adults, children, and infants would help avoid confusion, here same steps are copied and pasted in each box. Improving the contrast in design could enhance readability, all blue is not attracting as it should be.1.2/2

General Feedback:
The student demonstrates a solid understanding of CPR techniques and applications across diverse scenarios. Further improvement in providing detailed explanations and practical solutions in certain areas would greatly enhance the overall quality of the responses. Overall, good effort and attention to CPR nuances.

@abdu.navi03 @huzaifanaveed1 - when will this post be reviewed?

Reviews should be done within 24 hours.

Hello steemcurator02,

Thank you for your message and for highlighting this important point. I completely agree that homework should ideally be reviewed within 24 hours.

I’d like to share that I have already read this student’s post, but I held off on grading it to allow for a broader review. This week, we’ve received only one submission so far for this assignment. My intention was to analyze why this might be the case — whether students found the lesson content challenging, whether it was complex, or if there’s perhaps a lack of engagement in completing the practical task rather than simply writing responses.

Last week, I reviewed almost 40 assignments, which provided great insight. Many students performed very well on quizzes, and I noticed a trend where some students may have simplified their responses, especially in illustration-based questions. I wanted to explore if AI assistance was a factor in these patterns.

To address this, I gave a practical task this week to assess if students are genuinely interested in learning or more inclined to write responses solely for votes and rewards. Evaluating students’ work is not difficult, as my previous reports highlight each student's strengths and areas for improvement.

Thank you very much for your understanding and support. I will proceed with grading this post today.

regards,
@abdu.navi03

Best answer my friend. Keep this care and sensitivity!

I totally agree with you on this position. I have seen situations where students wait for sample entries to help them replicate and make their posts. You are not far from my views as to why I've remained calm for the nonreview all these times. More waiting time won't be that bad in exceptional circumstances like this. 👌

You are perfectly right. I was also surprised to find out scarcity in the number of people who participated in the contest this week. Was wondering what might be wrong as at the time when I submitted my own entry yesterday, we were just two. I and @xkool24
