Life and my garden

Today, after a long time without writing, away from all those activities that give me life by looking for ways to survive in the midst of an unstable economy that has forced me to do a series of jobs that generate me an income but that wear me out every day a little more. Today, after a long time away from my home, I managed to wake up without rushing, without any surprises because the bus that takes me to work would drop me off. Today, I sat again at my little table in my garden to appreciate the little birds that show their joy for my return.

As I drank my coffee, in my favorite cup and not in a plastic cup provided by the coffee shop around the corner from my office. I observed carefully how in my garden the plants were very neglected, some in their nobility maintained their beauty and clung to the little that was left of my care. I decided to start the day by tidying up the garden and as I did so I thought about how similar our life is to a garden. If you neglect the plants that need daily water in small quantities to survive, they will be the first to die. Then, the strongest will follow, those plants that are drought and heat resistant begin to feel the absence of the caretaker, when the soil hardens and cracks its roots dry up and it dies from within.

Another aspect, that I could notice was how the weeds took over what used to be flowers and fruits, these weeds start in a very subtle way, they appear unexpectedly and little by little they gain space, they take over the spaces, suffocate the good plants and turn everything that used to be life into a deserted place full of sadness. I started my day pulling weeds, hydrating the plants that still remained, pruning the trees that resisted in the midst of my absence and little by little, while with love and gratitude I recovered the life of my garden I felt my own life recovering with it.

Today, I realized how much we leave to ourselves, that we put ourselves aside and forget the care we need. We are all a garden, our life can die little by little as we allow weeds to take over our existence in the form of thoughts that attack us, we surround ourselves with weeds when we choose the wrong people around us, when we allow situations that affect and harm us. When we let our soul dry out everything in us dies little by little, the sign of this is expressed in the wounds on our skin, and in the weight of the damage, we accumulate.

Our life is a garden and we are the caretakers, it is in us where lies the responsibility of daily care and especially of the love we give ourselves. It is in us to bloom, to fill ourselves with fruits, flowers, freshness, color and life. We are gardeners, and when we neglect ourselves, we simply disappear among the weeds and the thirst of the earth that is ours, the same of our own life.

Your words are so true. We are caretakers of ourselves. In stressful life routines we tend to neglect our body and mind. Our body is our home and he needs our fullest attention. Thanks for reminding me! ;)

Thank you very much for your comment. I must say that this first writing after such a stressful time is a product of my own personal experience. If we do not take care of our lives on a daily basis the consequences can be fatal. We are life in connection with nature.
