Jenang saren is one of the traditional culinary delights found in Central Java, including Solo. This one snack is rich in spices that are effective in warming the body.

  1. Prepare the necessary materials

The main ingredient:

250 grams of rice flour

75 grams of tapioca flour

6 tablespoons straw ash

2 pandan leaves

4 tablespoons margarine (can use coconut oil)

250 grams of brown sugar, roughly chopped

1 tablespoon granulated sugar

Pinch of salt

3 liters of water

Spices:

7 cloves

3 segments of ginger, grated

2 cardamom grains

1 tsp black pepper, crushed

1 stick of cinnamon

3 pieces of lime leaves, roughly grated

Ingredients for coconut milk:

130 ml instant coconut milk

500 ml of water

1 sheet pandan conclude

salt to taste

2.Make coconut milk sauce

Put all the ingredients for the sauce into the pan, stir evenly. Bring the coconut milk to a boil using only low heat. While waiting for the sauce to boil, keep stirring the coconut milk so that it doesn't form lumps.

  1. Sift flour and boil water with brown sugar

Sift tapioca flour, rice flour, and straw ash so that the flour becomes finer again. If so, set aside the ingredients.

Then, boil 1 liter of water over medium heat. Also add brown sugar, granulated sugar, salt, pandan leaves, and spices.

While waiting for the water to boil, mix all the ingredients well. After boiling, strain the sauce and discard the pulp.

  1. Mix the other ingredients

Pour the boiled water into 2 liters of raw water in a saucepan. Next, enter all the sifted flour, add it a little at a time while continuing to stir. Cook over medium heat until the texture is evenly thick.

  1. Add margarine and serve

After the wet dough is evenly distributed, add margarine and cook, stirring constantly, until cooked. Remove and serve with coconut milk sauce.
