Providing ownership rights to employee as incentive to boost productivity is increasingly being used particularly among blue chip organization, banks and others. Interest in the welfare of staff should not be limited to providing immediate reward for work done. The future of the staff after they must have left the employment of the organization should also be the concern of the employer.
Ownership of ordinary shares in a company entitled the beneficiaries to dividends given out of the profits of the company as long as the organization is in existence. So the staff that enjoys this benefit can be assured of regular source of income even after their productive life.
In addition, ordinary shareholders of a company possess voting rights.
In essence, any staffs who is also a shareholder has a right to contribute (in the proportion of the shareholding) to how the company is being run. One other advantage workers will derive from being made shareholders is the fact that they are in position to buy over the company or gain control in the future.

• They are more likely to provide quality contribution to the business of the organization.
• They are also more likely to stay longer on the job. In this direction, the company will be able reap from whatever investment made into their lives i.e. they won’t after you must have trained them.
• They won’t give away trade secret. They are less likely to give away trade secret to competitors since they are also part owners of the company.
