Bangladesh is a developing country. In less than fifty years of independence, Bangladesh has become a role model of development in the world. Our economy is growing rapidly. GDP is growing faster. You would be surprised to hear that we surpassed India, one of the largest countries in terms of GDP per capita, two months ago. This is a great achievement for us.
বাংলাদেশ একটি উন্নয়নশীল দেশ। স্বাধীনতার পঞ্চাশ বছর না পেরোতেই বাংলাদেশ বিশ্বের বুকে উন্নয়নের রোল মডেলে পরিণত হয়েছে। আমাদের অর্থনীতি দ্রুত গতিতে বেড়ে চলেছে। জিডিপি বাড়ছে আরো দ্রুত। শুনে অবাক হবেন যে, মাথাপিছু জিডিপি তে আমরা অন্যতম বৃহৎ দেশ ভারতকেও ছাড়িয়ে গিয়েছি দুই মাস আগে। এটা আমাদের জন্য এক বিরাট সাফল্য।
However, many changes can be noticed when the country is moving towards rapid development. Urbanization is one of these changes. As the economy strengthens, people build cities for a better life. This is the beginning of urbanization.
যায়হোক, দেশ যখন দ্রুত উন্নয়নের দিকে ধাবিত হয় তখন অনেক ধরণের পরিবর্তন লক্ষ্য করা যায়। এসব পরিবর্তনের মধ্যে নগরায়ন অন্যতম। অর্থনীতি শক্তিশালী হওয়ার সাথে সাথে মানুষ আরো ভাল জীবনযাপনের উদ্দেশ্যে শহর গড়ে তুলে। এটাই নগরায়নের সূচনা করে।
As the economy grows, so does our urbanization process. New cities are being built. Multi-storey building is being constructed. In this country of about one and a half million square kilometers, there is no alternative to multi-storey buildings to ensure the housing of 18 crore people.
অর্থনীতি বাড়ার সাথে সাথে আমাদের নগরায়ন প্রক্রিয়াও অনেক গতিশীল হচ্ছে। নতুন নতুন শহর গড়ে উঠছে। বহুতল ভবন নির্মিত হচ্ছে। প্রায় দেড় লক্ষ্য বর্গকিলোমিটারের এই দেশে অাঠারো কোটি মানুষের বাসস্হানের নিশ্চয়তা প্রদান করতে বহুতল ভবনের বিকল্প নেই।
However, in many places in Bangladesh, the urbanization process is very uncontrolled. This unplanned urbanization can cause us many problems in the long run. So it is important to keep an eye on us.
তবে বাংলাদেশে অনেক স্থানেই নগরায়ন প্রক্রিয়া খুবই অনিয়ন্ত্রিত। এই অপরিকল্পিত নগরায়ন দীর্ঘমেয়াদে আমাদের অনেক সমস্যা সৃষ্টি করতে পারে। তাই এদিকে আমাদের নজর রাখা জরুরি।
