Its botanical name is Manihot esculenta, and it's kind of is -Plantae, it's a tuber plant just like yam, potato, carrot, etc. The cultivation of cassava worldwide has increased due to its large importance in the economy. Cassava is rich in carbohydrates production.

Cassava should not be eaten fresh because it contains a poisonous substance called CYANIDE and its toxic to ingest. Which can cause so many effects like paralyzed legs in children, iodine will be very low, intoxication and death(i have witness death as a result of eating raw cassava).

To remove the naturally occurring cyanide from cassava you have to soak and cook it well so these compounds will be harmless.

HOW TO PREPARE CASSAVA

  • pell the cassava

  • grind if you want to make garri, slice if you want to make tapioca.

  • soak them in water very well

  • boil it till it's well cooked

  • also frying and baking is good too.
