This red dragonfly I found in my garden in aceh, Indonesia.
The dragonfly is an insect with four wings that feature its large eye. The great eye of the dragonfly consists of an ommatidium that can look in every direction and decelerate movement ata radius of over 30 feet (10 m).
Many of the insects are found in tropical regions such as Indonesia. At least 750 varieties of dragonfly live in Indonesia. Not only in the tropics, dragonflies have been found to live on high mountains. Here's a unique fact about dragonflies:
Dragonfly Food
Dragonflies are carnivores. It feeds on mosquitoes, ants, termites, bees, butterflies, and flies. Dragonflies also feed on larvae, tadpoles, and small fish. Adults can eat up to 50 mosquitoes a day.Flying Skills.
Dragonflies have extraordinary flying ability. It is able to flap its wings about 30 times a second at speeds of up to 100 km/ h (100 km/ h).
The insect also has strong flying muscles and wings that move independently. The wing has a corrugated texture that helps detect the wind to help it fly.Vision.
The dragonfly can distinguish light from color, ultraviolet, and polarized light. Those abilities enabled her to detect a reflection in the water. Each compound eye of the dragonfly contains some 30 thousand individual lenses. Also, they have a 360-degree vision because of the position of their eyes.
