My experience in Traffic Jam

In Nigeria,
traffic congestion is becoming a big challenge such that many cities like
Lagos, Kaduna, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Aba and others are being choked up by
traffic, especially vehicular.
Today, I had
horrible traffic jam experience. I needed to alight from the cab to trek the remaining
distance to my destination. It was not a funny experience. It took me a very
long time to get to where I was going. Many commuters were caught in the traffic as well and
one could frustration written over their face. Hmmm! It was a bad experience
today.
The whole situation getting worsened in the city of Port Harcourt. Though, the vehicular hold up is a challenge in Port Harcourt where I live, it has not got to the situation in Lagos. Lagos is the most populous city in West Africa it always in traffic jam.
Problems Posed By Traffic
A number of them will be discussed briefly.
First, it
makes travel times longer. When one would have spent 2 hours, he/she will take
four times the two hours because of traffic jam. It is energy sapping.
Secondly, it
drains the energy that would have been used to do work in the office or work
place. Sometimes, one begins to have anxiety, headaches, etc. This condition
leads to low productivity at work.
Traffic jam
reduces the productive time of entire one’s life. For instance, one spends 1
hour everyday in traffic, say, for 40 years, he/she would have wasted approximately
600 days (1year 8months) in traffic jam! It renders one unproductive.It causes
pollution. When some many vehicles are on a queue, they produce carbon (ii)
Oxide concentrating at point making the pollution at that more severe.
Traffic
congestion can you miss your interview with an employer. That will be a hard
luck!
How To tackle Traffic Jam
Firstly, the
roads should be widened to allow for the movement of more vehicles at a time,
preventing unwarranted queue on the roads.
Secondly,
tunnels will go a long way to ameliorate the difficulties in the normal in the
case of traffic congestion. It will really decongest the roads as that will
provide an alternative route for road users.
Use of rail
ways will reduce vehicular presence on the road, especially the heavy weight
trucks. The consignments carried by the trucks can be transported by rail
making the road safe and free for commuters.
The number
of lanes can be increased per road. More lanes can be created to make the rods
a bit free for the users.
In summary,
problems make people think. It was never a concern to me until I got stuck today in
the traffic jam. So, solving traffic jam problems will make us more productive
and avoiding unnecessary stress resulting from staying long in the traffic.
