Bird Watching at Wood Buffalo National Park

Wood Buffalo National Park is located between the Athabasca and Great Slave lakes in northern Alberta and the southern northwestern territories of Canada. It was founded in 1922 as a sanctuary to protect the few remaining bison flocks in northern Canada, and it covers an area of 17,300 square metres (44,807 square metres). We saw many bird species for first time there.

It is a vast area with forests and plains, as well as many lakes, which is traversed by the Peace River (including Lake Claire). The birds were crawling so freely that I have memories of life time from there.

Plains and wood buffalo (bison), as well as bears, caribou, moose, deer, and beavers, call it home. The park is home to the only remaining breeding place for the biscuit crane, North America's tallest native bird, which is on the verge of extinction.

The park was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site World Heritage Site in 1983 due to its unique animal population and rich natural resources. Could resist to photograph bird and animals. Hope you enjoy them.
