The weather was really nice today. The daily maximum was 16 C, which felt warm. I've seen everything from freezing in the afternoon to +25 C in the first week of May. Back when I was a student, I took a month-long course that began in mid-May and ended in mid-June. In the beginning, there was 15 cm of sleet on the streets and in the end we were walking around in shorts and t-shirts in the heat.
Here are the photos I took today:
We heard many engine noises from the lake.
We're approaching the harbor from the northwest. The good weather had attracted a lot of people to cycle and walk outside.
This is the old railway station of Lahti. The station was part of an important transportation route along the 120 km long Lake Päijänne continuing via the 25 km long Lake Vesijärvi from the north for goods and people from 1861 when the Helsinki - St. Petersburg railway connection was built until 1935 when the current railway station was built.
There is a very nice cafeteria inside the building. Too bad it was closed. A sign at the door said that it would be opened on May 31. Until then, it would only be open for takeaway between noon and six pm.
We bought ice cream from this boat.
The railroad used to be here. The stadium where the ski jumping hills are is about 1.5 to 2 km from here. The track to the lake currently ends at the stadium.
The iconic radio towers are on the esker in the background.
The plants made for a nice foreground.
We walked around the pond to our car when drove home.
