Banana or wooden rafts were once made for navigating the rivers and canals of Bangladesh. Banana rafts are still used in the rainy season. In some areas, rafts were made by tying earthen pitchers (at least nine) to bamboo or wooden structures. It was called the earthen raft. At one time the lower-middle-class people of Bangladesh used to make boats by carving large pieces of wood. Inside, a boat specimen made with a palm trunk can still be seen. This is usually called a canoe.
