Our body compared to other animals’ physique strongly suggests that we are actually frugivores - which means that we are designed to eat just fruits in their natural, raw state.
But is this allowing us to thrive in today’s environment?
Unfortunately things have changed a little. Our soils tend to be depleted as well as contaminated with chemicals and are not providing us with the same amount of nutrients it used to. As a consequence, the nutritional spectrum of our fruits might not be sufficient anymore to easily fill all our needs.
Especially leafy greens have a portfolio of minerals and proteins that are a little more difficult to get from fruit sources. We do believe a healthy, fulfilling fruitarian lifestyle can still be possible, but needs a pristine environment to thrive on it.
I like to balance my fruit-based diet with dinner salads loaded with leafy greens as well as fresh herbs and a small amount of nuts, seeds and seaweeds. For a better digestion, I eat only small amounts of harder veggies like cabbage, carrots or raw cauliflower and rather add some savory fruits such as tomatoes or cucumbers to my meals.
