Hello friends, how are you all doing? In today's article, I will be writing about my Top 5 Nollywood movies.

For starters, Nollywood is the movie industry of Nigeria. According to Wikipedia, "The origin of the term "Nollywood" remains unclear; Jonathan Haynes traced the earliest usage of the word to a 2002 article by Matt Steinglass in the New York Times, where it was used to describe Nigerian cinema."

As a matter of fact, Nollywood is the second largest movie industry globally. In terms of output, it produces about 2,500 films in a year.
Below are my top 5 Nollywood movies of 2020.

CITATION

Citation is a 2 hour, 31 minutes movie produced in 2020 and directed by Ace director, Kunle Afolayan. The amazing film was written by Tunde Babalola and it stars billionaire's daughter, Temi Otedola, Bukunmi Oluwashina, Joke Silva, Jimmy Jean louis and a host of other talented actors.
The movie is about a student who cries out after a university professor attempts to take advantage of her and rape her, and the reaction of the university institution to the claims.
The movie is based on true life events.
Citation was rated 6/10 by IMDb, 60% by Rotten Tomatoes and 3.5/5 by IndieWire.

THE LEGEND OF INIKPI

The Legend of Inikpi was produced by Nollywood legendary actress, Mercy Johnson-Okojie. It's a story about the ancient Kingdoms of Igala and Bini (Nigerian kingdoms). The Legendary movie tells a compelling tale of the two kingdoms on the brink of war. However, the Oracle tells the King, known as the Attah of Igala Kingdom of the human sacrifice demanded by the gods, the king plunges into despair; haunted by the ghosts of his past, this is a sacrifice he is not prepared to give! His daughter, Inikpi, decided to sacrifice herself for peace to reign. She was buried alive and peace was restored. The movie was directed by Frank Raja Arase. It starred Mercy Johnson, Sam Dede, Nancy Ameh, Odunlade Adekola and others. It raked over 29 million Naira in Box office, a record no epic movie has ever broken.

OMO GHETTO: THE SAGA

It raked a whooping 615 million naira at the box office, Omo Ghetto: The saga was produced by popular Nollywood actress, Funke Akindele.
The movie is a story about one Lefty who, together with her squad from the ghetto (a slang for slum), was always getting into one trouble or the other. However, fortune smiled on Lefty and she was adopted alongside her twin sister, Ayomide, by the lovely Mrs Benson and moved to an upper-class neighborhood. The movie was released on the 25th of December, 2020. it stars Funke AKindele, Eniola Badmus, Bimbo Thomas, Nancy Isime, Chioma Akpotha and others. 97% of Google users loved the movie.

QUAM'S MONEY

Produced on the 11th of December, 2020, 'Quam's Money' follows the adventures of security guard named Quam whom by fortune, turned millionaire. Quam then navigates the world with his newfound wealth. The movie was directed by Kayode Kasum and written by Chinaza Onuzo. It raked 89 million naira from the Box office. It stars Jemima Osunde, Falz the Bahd Guy, Mercy Eke, Broda Shaggi and many others.

Ìfé

Ìfé was released on the 11th of October 2020. It's a Nigerian LGBTQ romantic movie. It was executive produced by prominent Nigerian LGBTQ rights activist Pamela Adie and directed by Uyaiedu Ikpe-Etim.
The movie prides itself as the first full fledged lesbian movie ever produced in Nigeria. The movie stars Uzoamaka Aniunoh, Cindy Amadi and many others.
