This Festival is mainly dedicated to Surya Dev ( Lord Surya i.e Sun ) and the Sister of Lord Surya i.e Chhathi Maiya.

Now you might have related the name Chhath Puja after reading the name of Chhathi Maiya but i will tell further in my post the real reason for the name of the festival being Chhath Puja.

Anyways , This festival is celebrated in states like Bihar , Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh. It is also celebrated in Nepal as well.

Now Interestingly this is the only Vedic Festival that is dedicated to lord Surya Chhathi Maiya. Chhathi Maiya is another name or Goddess Usha.

In this festival hindu's worship god of light , god of energy and god of life forces and they believe that this will bring the well being to their house.

People also fast for four days during this festival and these people are called vrati.

Now according to my knowledge I read about the festival that the festival is celebrated twice in one year and this is the second time in this year.

the first time when it is celebrated it is the time of Summer.
It is just after few days of Holi when the festival is celebrated.

Actually above you all must have thought that the festival is named Chhath Puja after the name of Chhathi Maiya but actually the fact is that Chhath means six in Sanskrit and this festival is celebrated on the sixth day in the month of Karthika.

So this is the reason for the festival being known as Chhath Puja.
There are many stories and believes on why the festival is celebrated so I have not touched that topic as i am not a professional learner of the religion.

So that is all for my post today. I hope it was a informative post to all the readers.
