While growing up in school, I was taught that almost everything that exist on earth has an opposite. Down vote is a term and a practice that exist on steemit and since steemit exist on earth it then means down vote has an opposite.

Down vote is an opposite of upvote. In simple terms, the word down vote is a combination of two words down and vote. Usually, the word down applies to the negative side while up applies to the positive side.

On steemit you can effectively talk about what a down vote is without slightly talking about upvote. On steemit, An upvote is when a users publication on steemit is liked by the reader. In trying to show how much the publication is liked a button is clicked.

The button representing the upvote is green with an arrow upwards. While a down vote is given when a users post is not liked either because the user has broken a rule or guildeline on steemit. The red arrow facing down represent the down vote. As you can see from the screenshot below.

A down vote on steemit is not a good thing. Down vote is done to take back the vote given on a users posts and also as a punishment for an offence committed.

Back then in 2021, I knew a user who started off genuinely as a blogger on Steemit. He got so much support from the Steemit team and all of a sudden he was discovered to have been involved in some sort of dirty games.

That same day he was discovered, instead of him to give an apology, he went on justifying his criminal acts and guess what happened? He got downvoted in 5 of his posts from 01 and 02. Not long, he left the platform.

• Plagiarism
• Vote buying
• Farming contents
• Fake account

How does down vote affects our accounts? Describe

Down votes has a negative impart on our account. First down votes affects our reputation on steemit.

When a down vote is done on a users post, the user reputation goes down so a decrease happens just like an upvote helps increase users reputation.

Downvote on our account is also a bad signal sent to curators that a user should not be trusted or supported.

Yes in my opinion I think down vote can help reduce plagiarism, abuse and spamming because when a user's account who is involved in any of these practice is down voted, it serves as a purnishment to that user so the user will know he has defaulted. This will discourage him subsequent time not to continue in his practice.

Secondly when the users reputation does down after a downvote, other curators will be aware of this abuser and stay clear of his account not to vote the user. The user will no longer get support which will definitely cause him to abort his missions.

Thirdly when other abuser see what happens to the accounts of abusers caught, they would all stay way from such practice or forced to leave the platform.
