Meugang : Aceh Tradition

• What is Meugang?
Meugang is basically an Acehnese tradition that has been formed long ago by Acehnese figures and scholars, then this tradition is perpetuated and becomes a legacy that has been passed down from generation to generation until now.
• Why is there Meugang?
This Meugang is done 2 days before the fasting month or the month of Ramadan arrives, because this is a tradition to enliven the welcoming of the month of Ramadan by Muslims, especially Acehnese. And this activity is not just an ordinary tradition, but this tradition has colored the path of Islam in Aceh very well.
• What do you do on Meugang's day?
The Acehnese in particular, on that day there was an activity of slaughtering various types of animals that were lawful to eat, generally the type of Ox, and then many people flocked to the nearest markets to buy the meat according to their respective needs, and then they cooked it at their respective homes. each with various types or flavors they want, and this is all an effort or step in enlivening the welcome of the month of Ramadan.
That's a little understanding of Meugang which has become a tradition in Aceh. And then below I will share or cover a news today in the area where I live regarding the coming of Meugang Day.
Today the market is preparing a place and various types of community needs are on the verge of the arrival of Meugang Day in a few days, namely Thursday (31 March 2022) to Friday (01 April 2022) which will come.
I also saw that along the road to the market there had been provided a place for slaughtering oxen and at the same time as a place for selling beef on the day of Meugang that would arrive.
This is where the market will take action on Megang's day. Many local people will come to this place to buy some beef.

Today I have approached a market, where today I saw the state of the market for various types of kitchen needs with various prices, and from all of them the prices were jumping, meaning almost all types of market merchandise today with high price increases.
People will be more confused with the state of market prices like this. The pandemic has really changed people's lives to become increasingly difficult for the community's economy and the increasing market prices, then this will make the community worse off in the valley of poverty, this is very unfortunate and very worrying.
Below I will give a little information regarding the state of market prices today.
• Prices of Chili and Shallots in North Aceh Soar
The price of red chili has now increased to IDR 50, 000 = 8. 278 STEEM/kg. It is more expensive than last week which was only IDR 30, 000 = 4. 966 STEEM/kg.
Green chili from the previous IDR 20, 000 = 3. 311 STEEM/kg, soared to IDR 30, 000 = 4. 966 STEEM/kg.
Small size cayenne pepper from IDR 25, 000 = 4. 139 STEEM/kg has now increased to IDR 45, 000 = 7. 450 STEEM/kg.
Shallots, from last week's IDR 26, 000 = 4. 304 STEEM/kg rose to IDR 32, 000 = 5. 298 STEEM/kg.
• The Price of Slaughtered Chicken for Breeders in North Aceh is Crawling Up
In the market, the price of the slaughtered chicken is IDR 18, 000 = 2. 980 STEEM/kg, but now it has increased to IDR 22, 000 = 3. 642 STEEM/kg.
Breeders, previously used to sell for IDR 18, 000 = 2. 980 STEEM/kg to IDR 20, 000 = 3. 311 STEEM/kg, now it is IDR 21, 000 = 3. 476 STEEM/kg to IDR 22, 000 = 3. 642 STEEM/kg.
• First Hold Meat Prices in North Aceh
Lhokseumawe - Aceh Utara : On the first day of holding or small holding, the price of local beef reaches IDR 170, 000 = 28. 145 STEEM/kg.
The price of local cattle purchased from farmers is currently experiencing an average increase in the animal field, for large-sized cattle IDR 15, 000, 000 = 2, 483. 443 STEEM/head, so the selling price of meat is in the range of IDR 160, 000 = 26. 490 STEEM/kg to IDR 170, 000 = 28. 145 STEEM/kg.
