What specific steps have you taken to reduce electricity consumption in your business during the summer?

Electricity consumption is a very disturbing issue in businesses especially here in Nigeria some of the power supply is mostly not stable. It is a thing of concern hence measures to manage it must be put in place.

Firstly, the business I do only runs throughout the day, and then I close and go and rest at night and during the weekends. This means during the night time and weekends I don't consume any electricity and also during the day time I always switch off devices when they are not in use.

Since I deal with refrigerators and bulbs, I always put them off when they are not in use and this goes a long way to help me conserve some energy thereby reducing the cost usually incurred on electricity bills.

Also during the night time, since I'm not at work, I only turn in the security light and turn it off immediately after I go to work the next day. These things and processes have helped me to save a lot of energy.

Have you invested in any technology or tools to monitor and manage your electricity usage?

Yes, I'm currently using a prepared meter which is a rechargeable device that supplies electricity to me whenever there is a power supply. So this device allows me to minimize the usage of electricity since I know that once my recharge finishes the light will automatically go off.

So using a prepared meter which I have to always recharge to get a power supply plays an important role in helping me manage the light. Also, I'm very cautious when the electricity is not needed and I go ahead to switch it off without any form of delay. This is how I have managed my electricity to minimize the money spent.

What advice would you give to other business owners struggling with high electricity bills in the summer?

If you are struggling with high electricity tariffs as a business owner during this summer period, my advice to you all is to try and reduce the use of things that are not very necessary in your business.

If your outcome isn't worth the amount you spent on the electricity tariffs it means you are running at a loss. So you have to cut off from it. Also, ensure to switch off all that you are not using when the devices are dormant or not in use.

In all, you have to always take into consideration all you are earning and also check if it is worth it. Switch off things that are not in use and you can also get a prepared meter so that you will always be cautious of the amount of electricity you are consuming there by taking the necessary action.
