Today we will be talking about Keratin extraction and a practical way to make your profit margin.

🔰Start by preparing a solution of Sodium Sulphide and Sodium hydroxide using 2L of disttled water.

🔰Pour the prepared solution into a beaker containing feathers after it has been prepared (eg; chicken feathers). Make sure the feathers are completely buried in the solution once you've poured, and then move on to setting up the heater, which you'll use to heat the solution while stirring.

🔰The stirring needs to be done continuously for six hours. To prevent inadequate or excessive heat transfer, the heater's temperature should be kept between 39°C and 49°C.
The feather solution will turn dark green after 6 hours of stirring, from brown.

🔰I will start my first filtration procedure after the 6 hours of stirring are up. As the solution is thick, it must travel slowly through the filter paper during this lengthy procedure.

🔰After the initial filtering, the filtrate is collected in a test tube and spun for 34 minutes in a centrifuge. Using the disparity in their densities, this will further separate the components of the filtered solution.
The test tube is withdrawn once the 34 minutes of centrifugation is complete, and the lower portion of the solution is refiltered while the other, less dense, top portion is discarded.

🔰Following the final filtration, the filtrate is thrown away while the residue in the filter paper is collected. A protein called Keratin makes up this residue.
