So Saturday was Nigeria's general elections for Presidential, Senate and House of Representatives.

The journey down there

1. Cost of transportation doubled. Since everyone wanted to go back to their villages, the motorist naturally increase the price knowing there will be no other options.
2. Means of transportation was scarce and the little available saw more people than the vehicle. This led to fight and scuffle. Every one wanted to get in at once.
3. Everywhere was busy. Traffic increased and also people rushed to stock up and this made the market women sold beyond expectations.

So where I was posted to serve as an electoral officer was Essien Udim. We arrived at the location to check our names to know if we have made the list and also check the ward and unit you have posted to.

Experience at Inec office

Here we arrived and were told that that electoral materials have not arrived and we need to wait till it arrives before we can proceed to the RAC center.

This we waited till the following morning with no one coming to address us. We were just out side looking for our team members as there was no phone numbers provided. So we had to move from one spot to another shouting and screaming at the top of our voices trying to locate our members. It was a rat race. Worthy to note was that INEC office isn't closer to any shopping complex so people had to bring in snacks and food. This led to hike in prices of everything and even when we decided to buy, we had to stand and eat. After then, we went back to sit and wait. Note: every one had to sit on blocks made from cement. Reason that no chair was provided. That was how we stayed till night occasionally getting up to walk and stretch and sometimes gathering in groups to chat and gist . When we were tired and felt sleepy, some pack the blocks to sleep on, While others spread wrapper on the floor, yet majority sat till morning. It wasn't a pleasant experience but then morning came.
