PHILOSOPHY AND THE CAMPUS

I would be sharing a brief knowlege I gathered from research on philosophy and driving it home to its importance of philosphy to us as campus undergraduates, and future of the country lies on our shoulders as the young ones.

PHILOSOPHY

Philosophy is a speculative science that arose from wonders, curiousity and the desire to know. It is this curiousity that pushes man to want to know more about things that initially he or she did not know. The beauty of philosophy lies in the fact that it provides us with the tools for analysing, critiquing and interpreting reality. Philosophy cuts across all the discipline and all human endeavour.

HISTORY OF PHILOSOPHY

Philosophy has been traced to be coined from two Greek words Phileo meaning "to love" and sophia meaning "wisdom" Therefore philosophy is to love wisdom A philosopher as a lover of wisdom is always in an ongoing quest to explore new ideas, re-examine old ones, confront undiscovered dimensions to human experience, and seek possible solutions to the problems of life. IT has been traced to have originated in Greece around 4th -5th century B.C. and originated by The Milesian philosopher, Thales, Anximander and Anaximenes where the first to engage in critical reflection on philosophy. However in Africa, it has been found that philosophy originated in Egypt and Greek philosophy continued as a result of influence of the significant influence it got from Egypt. It is known to this day that philosophy is the oldest discipline.

USES OF PHILOSOPHY TO CAMPUS

  • Philosophy aids reasonable thoughts

Reasonableness is the essence of philosophy. Being reasonable is the essence of philosophy. It helps us make perfect decision, make choices, live a better life accomplish life-set goals and become a better person. Problems we face is as a result of not being reasonable at the right time as students.

  • It offers knowlege in our daily schedule

Philosophy helps us as students discover new ways of making life better and insight on how to solve controversial life issues. It also offers us knowlege with which we can arrive at the truth about things.

  • It helps us to be moral agents

In the campus, where moral decadence is on the increase , philosophy helps us to be moral agents thereby helping us know right moral conducts to exhibit to each others as we coexisit in campus.

  • It helps us to me more creative

It provides a great impact on our Intelligent Quotient (IQ) level thereby making us veey creative in offering solutions to problems arising around us

  • It helps us identify deception.

Philosophy could deliver us as students mostly from scammers mostly in form of ponzy schemes and wiles to rob us of funds. It would give us insight into logical reasoning and avoiding the menace of regrets and gnashing of teeth.

  • It helps us live better lives

Philosophy could give us the edge as stidents through insight into knowlege, make us know actually the right food to eat at each point...avoiding harmful food that harms our body, thereby overcoming world hazardous diseases such as cancer, diabetes and so on.we could live better lives.
