INTRODUCTION

Good day steemians and welcome to my post. Today I'll be taking about a sleeping disorder called insomnia and how it affects the body negatively. Sit back, relax and let's start.
Many individuals including men, women, children, sick,well and not excluding the pregnant mothers surfer from the inability to sleep due to stress, pain, overactiveness and lots more. This inability to sleep is termed Insomnia and it affects the activities of daily living.

WHAT IS INSOMNIA

Sleeping is a process of resting the brain, and when the brain is deprived of quality(satisfactory) or quantity(sleeping for a good period of time) rest, the brain tends to be restless and loss concentration.
Insomnia is a sleeping disorder, that develops due to lack of quality and quantity sleep. In other for the body to work perfectly, sleep process must be completed without any alterations.
Insomnia affect people of different age, both children and adults and it's more common in females than in males, this disorder can affect both school and work activities not excluding the activities of daily living and it can cause the following symptoms in individuals:-

  • Obesity
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Irritability
  • Temporary memory loss
  • Poor immunity
  • Anger
  • Difficulty in falling asleep
  • Waking up earlier than desired
  • Feeling sleepy even after waking up
  • Difficulty socializing
  • Worrying about sleep
  • Poor concentration
  • Headache
TYPES OF NSOMNIA

There are three types of insomnia and they include:-

  • Acute insomnia: this occurs when symptoms are persistent. The symptoms last for several weeks

  • Chronic insomnia: Insomnia is chronic when symptoms last for months or even years

  • Transient insomnia: insomnia is said to be transient when the symptoms last for a few weeks.

CAUSES OF NSOMNIA
The causes of insomnia varies, it can be due to underlying medical condition, or a past event, or it can be due to physical activity or psychological factors. Causes includes:
  • Disruption of the circadian rhythm. The circadian rhythm is like a biological clock that tells about the body's metabolic activities anytime there's an unintentional job shift changes, high altitudes, noises heat or cold.

  • Psychological factors: people with mood disorders can develop insomnia. Anxiety and fear can make an individual sleepless and restless.

  • Medical conditions can cause insomnia such as tumors, stroke, fatique, chronic pain( in cases of sickle cell anaemia), e.t.c

  • Hormones such as oestrogen and progesterone can cause insomnia if there's a shift of these hormones during menstruation

  • Mind overactiveness

  • Pregnancy

  • Social media: social media has greatly influenced individuals. Children with cell phones, DVDs, laptops e.t.c tend to keep deprive themselves of sleep due to seeing a movie or doing one thing or the other on the internet.

MANAGEMENT OF INSOMNIA
Insomnia can be managed through the following ways:
  • Improving sleeping pattern

  • Relaxation

  • Avoiding long naps during the day

  • Meditation

  • Don't over sleep or under sleep.

CONCLUSION

we should do well to get enough sleep in other to maintain a perfect homeostasis of the body and to avoid sickness as sleep help In boosting the immune system.
