Hello everyone. Hope you all are safe and are making the most of this strike period. I'm here again with another wonderful and life changing topic which has to do all about goals.

What is a goal?

A goal is simply a result that one desires to achieve.

I'm not here to explain the meaning of goals. Everyone here must already know what a goal is. If you take a good look at the title of this post, you'll notice, of course, that it reads "Why students should WRITE down their goals.

I could've put something else like "The importance on setting goals" but instead, today, I want to lay emphasis on putting your goals down in writing.

A lot of students don't put their yearly, monthly, weekly and daily goals down in writing. I cannot over-stress the importance of putting down your goals on paper.

Why you should write your goals on paper:

  • It gives you more motivation: You can try it out for yourself and see. When you constantly write down your goals for the next day and the day after that, and the the day after that one, you'll see yourself motivated to want to achieve those goals. This is most effective when you assign, each goal for the day, a deadline.

  • You become organized: Assuming you write your goals for the next day in a notebook before you go to bed at night, you'll wake up to specific goals that you have set for that day, instead of engaging in random and unplanned activities.

  • Breaking down big goals to simpler ones on paper will make you feel less overwhelmed by them as you have only a number of goals to achieve per day

  • Writing down your goals increases your probability of achieving them and much more: In the long run, you cannot compare the success of people that don't write down their yearly, monthly, weekly and daily goals to those who do and work on them. There is a big difference in their accomplishments.

  • Once your goals have been put down on paper, it transits from just a dream, a thought or a fantasy to a real doable pursuit.

My challenge to you:

Take out a book and write down ALL the goals you want to accomplish before the end of this year. Make sure they are realistic, as unrealistic goals aid in discouraging a person.
After doing that, break down those goals by writing down what you hope to accomplish each month.
Done that? Next, break down the goals of each month into weeks. Write down what you hope to accomplish at the end of each week of every month.

Now write down the goal you want to achieve tomorrow with respect to the goal for the week of whichever month tomorrow falls into. Make sure you separate each goal for tomorrow with timely deadlines. At the end of each day, write the goal for the next day with respect to the week.

We need to be conscious of our goals as students. This is what separates the winners from the losers.

Thank you!
