Good Day Steemians, How is your day going?

I would love to point out a confusing fact in Christendom, many of us gets confused when Mothering Sunday is mentioned, we tend to misinterpret it to mean the same with Mother's day but this two terms are totally different... Mothering Sunday is an event celebrated by the Anglican Church Worldwide on the fourth Sunday in Lent, Mothering Sunday coincides with Laetere Sunday, also called Refreshment Sunday or Mid-Lent Sunday. The celebration is focused on the motherhood of Mary the mother of Jesus, the Church as our Overall Mother and our Mothers in different homes while Mother’s Day is an American social celebration in honour of mothers, which started on 12th May, 1908 by Anna Jarvis. It is celebrated every second Sunday of May. It has no connection to Mothering Sunday which is a church celebration.

Mother's Day is a celebration of the role of motherhood, similar to the American tradition which children will give their Mother a card and gifts while younger children will prepare breakfast for their mothers, these children became “household servants” as they busy themselves with domestic chores being given to them including washing clothes, washing dishes, house cleaning and scrubbing floors. Mother's Day is the recognised as the third most popular holiday that requires buying of greet cards apart from Christmas and Valentine's Day.

The celebration of Mothering Sunday started a long time ago, as at then, life was so very difficult for middle class families because many families were poor and could not take care of all their children because of scarcity, young children are being sent to live with well to do families, these children are being used as house servant and would be assigned to one or more household chores including cooking, washing clothes, lighting morning fires, cleaning, scrubbing floors, washing dishes, and any other chores assigned by the wealthy family members. A day in a year was brought out as a free day for them as these domestic servants can go home to visit their family members and their home church. This day was called Mothering Sunday. As these children were walked home to visit their family , they would stop and pick wild flowers, which would be given as gifts to their mothers.

Happy Mothering Sunday in Advance to all our Mothers and May God Bless them with Long Life and Good Health
