I'm so delighted to be here and also participate in this Contest, I hope all is well with everyone and we are safe.

INTRODUCTION

Education is the grassroot of development. But unfortunately Educational system in Nigeria is moribund, due to poor funding resulting in poor infrastructures, inadequate lecture halls, lack of teaching aids, lack of quality lecturers, poor or polluted learning environment. Also educational system is contaminated with numerous problems like examination malpractices, cultism, and corruption. For a proper development to take place in the educational sector, government need to re-address the problem of funding, education must be affordable for all.

IF I AM THE VICE CHANCELLOR OF THE UNIVERSITY FOR 24HOURS I WILL LOVE TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUES

• POOR FUNDING

The main problem facing the educational sector is funding, at all tiers of government in Nigeria, education is not funded properly.

• POOR GOVERNANCE

Bad governance and mismanagement is really affecting the educational sector. There's neglegence for the educational sector in Nigeria, this is shown in the amount budgeted for education on yearly basis which is very low as such attention is not given to it.

• CORRUPTION

Corruption spoiled the bedrock of everything in Nigeria, and the educational sector is among, In University, lecturers collect bribes from students to pass them, students pay brilliant colleagues to write exams and tests for them.

• POLITICIZATION OF EDUCATION

Lack of control and responsibility is adding to other problems of education, there is a kind of competition by all the levels of government to do more than each other, mostly at the state level. This result in establishment of more institutions that will be difficult to manage and a reduction in the quality of education that is given to the students.

• LACK OF INFRASTRUCTURE

A main outcome of inadequate funding for educational sector is lack of infrastructure. Many schools in Nigeria have collapsed due to poor infrastructure. Many tertiary institutes do not give the level of practicable education that is offered to sttudents who are abroad to study.
The infrastructure are not condusive for learning, libraries are not equipped adequately.

• INDISCIPLINE

Examination malpractices are the evidence of Indiscipline and is very rampant in schools today, and parents buying admission for their children when they are not merited it, student not taking their education serious and they join cultism thus expanding the fight against cultism, which have reduced academic excellence.

• WHO IS A VICE CHANCELLOR

The Vice-Chancellor is the principal person and administrative officer of the University who oversees the academic welfare of the University and He or she is the chairman of the Council of the University.

He or She is to provide leadership, academic and administrative to the whole University, represent the University in all, Secure a finance that is sufficient to allow the smooth delivery of the University's mission, aims and objectives.

WITH THIS ROLE OF A VICE CHANCELLOR IN MIND I WILL DO THE FOLLOWING:

• I will liase with the government for proper funding of the University

• I will make sure to include myself among the financial management board that will take care of the allocated funds.

• I will make sure the money is use for what it was burggeted for and oversees the work by myself

• I will build many spacious lecture halls that will be comfortable for students to have their lectures

• I will equipped libraries and laboratories adequately

• I will provide teaching aids for lecturers

• I will stop bribery and corruption by all means

• I will stop cultism by expelling any students that found and proven to be a cult member

• I will reduce school fees to affordable price for students

• I will make sure admission is on merit

• Any students that involves in examination malpractice will be expell from the school

• I will make sure there's constant light in the school premises by providing generating plant and solar panels in most area.

• I will stop indecent dressing in the school premises

• I will provide a spacious and comfortable hostel with adequate water supply and constant light

• I will furnish the common room for students to recieve their visitors

• I will ensure of adequate sanitation both the school and hostel premises
