What a wonderful day to be and share with my steemians family. How are you doing today, I believe it's going well. If so, Glory be to God.

Am here again to share with you on health tips because without it some person's ignorantly fall victim of such health challenges.

Today, as have said, I will be sharing with you on the title GLAUCOMA. This is disease that concerns the eye. Therefore I urge you to read this and learn to keep you eye and take good care of your eyes because It is one of the most sensitive part of the body.

Glaucoma being one of the fastest leading causes of blindness to people above the age of 60, it is an eye condition that damages the optic nerve. A nerve that transmit signals from the retina to the brain.

This damage occurs when there is an increased level of pressure in the eye, a condition known as ocular hypertension. Glaucoma can still occur even when the pressure in the eye is normal. That is why a regular visit to the Optometrist or ophthalmologist is advisable.

Glaucoma is an eye disease or disorder that is defined as a characteristic optic neuropathy, or disease of the optic nerve that if not treated can lead to a serious damage of the optic disc of the eye and result in visual field loss due to lack of the communication between the retina and the brain which can lead to blindness.

Glaucoma, if it is not treated or detected can lead to a complete loss of eyesight. It is not curable but can be managed or controlled with pills, eye drops, laser procedures and surgery.

Also know that vision that is lost through glaucoma cannot be restored.

People with family history of glaucoma or people with diabetes or people on long-term steroid medication or people who have had eye injury or are short-sighted or people who are above 40 and finally people who are have pigment dispersion syndrome are susceptible to glaucoma. Psychophysiological stress can also build up pressure in the eye.

Usually, you might not notice any signs of glaucoma at the early stage because it progresses slowly with no noticeable red flag.

Now to prevent Glaucoma, there are things you need to do and they are as follows:-

  • A regular intake of a balanced diet and regular exercise must be ensured.

  • Avoid smoking and keep a healthy weight.

  • Limit your intake of caffeine and also avoid too much exposure to sunlight. If it is unavoidable then the use of sunglasses and hats are advisable.

  • Also go for regular eye examination and maintain a normal blood pressure.

Thank you for reading my post, I appreciate very much.
