INTRODUCTION

Good day Everyone,

Season's greetings to everyone at the CampusConnect Community. Here is my entry post for #week17 of Campus Connect Weekly Contest (Challenges As A Student On Your Campus).

As a student, It is a day-to-day thing to face challenges on campus. It is a never-ending thing till you graduate from school. In this article, I will be writing about the challenges I face on campus. Some of these challenges are inevitable, while some of them can be totally avoidable. On-campus some challenges are fun when it has to do with sports or other gaming-related activities, but some others are completely unlikeable to everyone and those are the types of challenges I will be discussing.

Challenges As A Student On Campus

  • Assignments: When you are a student, three (3) things are constant; tests, spending, and assignments. Funny as it may seem, assignments are the most difficult tasks of them all because some of them are capable of draining you mentally and most times it takes days or weeks to complete with the deadline hanging on your neck. Then after submission when the lecturer doesn't fancy your work, He may ask you to go back and redo it again and that is your efforts wasted. Unlike tests, that would be over in nothing more than 3hours, in one sitting and nobody will ask you to redo if they don't appreciate your work or if you didn't do well but that has its disadvantages though.
  • Lack of Money/Being Broke: Simple thing is when you are broke, you are hungry and when you are hungry, nothing excites you no more. This is arguably the major challenge faced by most students on campus because in this state you won't be interested in doing anything at all. You might not even want to go to class anymore because all you will have on your mind is where to get money to sort out the things you urgently need money for.
  • 7 AM Classes: If I become the Head of State one day, then it's automatic 20years jail time for any lecturer that fixes 7 AM lectures anywhere. It's 2021 and I think early hours of the morning classes should be prohibited and students together should learn not to attend. I personally do not attend 7 AM classes but I hate to hear that the lecturer took attendance for that class, that's utmost wickedness. It is really challenging during harmattan season for anyone to get up to do anything at all, then a lecturer would expect His students to get up in that extreme cold to prepare and come for class. The most annoying part about it all is that sometimes when you are 5minutes late the lecturer would lock you out the door. Now imagine all that work you put in to meet up with the class, wasted just because you are a few minutes late.
  • Lecturers Over Staying Their Allocated Time In Class: This is a challenge that can easily be avoided if we, the students knew our rights. How as a human being will you make other humans sit for 2 - 3 hours on the spot and still take extra minutes like it is a football game, knowing fully well that all you are saying is going into deaf ears because the minds of these students are somewhere else with tiredness included. It is common knowledge that these lecturers do not really care about students, they only care about completing their entire scheme for that semester to get their pays.
  • Difficult Test/Exams: For real, life is actually easy we only decide to make it hard. I don't see the issues when if I should sit for an exam that isn't so hard, everybody goes home happy. This mentality that lecturers have of proving they are the best when they set extremely difficult questions in tests or exams should be abolished. No crime in letting students just pass and go.
  • Less Time For Sports/Games: These activities are what keep students' minds alive, so there should be a need for creating more time for them by the schools' authority. Every student has this particular game or games they find interesting but due to the burden of having too many academy workloads, they are not able to play or keep up with their favourite games as they would like to and that could hinder their academic growth on a long run. Fun has to come in contact with seriousness for balance.

RECAP

Knowing that some of these challenges we face on campus cannot be avoided then it is wise as students that we prepare very well against them. If the need arises, we should be there to help one another overcome these challenges.

It is important that students develop a sense of unity among themselves as we are on the journey together. A little help, a show of good faith and a humble gesture towards one another can really go a long way.
