Good day steemians! I trust your day is going on well? Today I'll be taking us into the world of physiology. The physiology of the human body is of utmost importance and most be taken care of because it tries to make the functions of organs work properly, maintain homeostasis and other important aspect of the human body metabolism.
Today, I'll be talking about the Cell, its components and functions of a cell. Quite intriguing right? Follow up this topic and it'll be of benefit to you.
What is a Cell?
A cell is can be defined as the basic, structural and functional unit of life which is capable of performing all the activities of life and can exist independently. The functions of life include: movement, reproduction, nutrition, irritability, growth, excretion, response, and death.
A cell is the smallest unit of life. Different components make up a cell. The human body is made up of billions of cells and I'll be listing some of the essential components of cell which one can take note of.
Components of a Cell
The cell is made up of different components and I'll be highlighting some of them below.
• Nucleus
This can be otherwise called as control center of the cell. It is the component of a cell which is capable of controlling other components. It stores the genetic materials of a cell.
• Cytoplasm
This can also be called plasma membrane. It is responsible for housing other components of cell. That is other cell components are embedded into it. It also serves as a means of exchange (respiration and excretion) through the means of simple diffusion.
• Ribosome
This is another cell component which is responsible for the production of protein. This means that it helps in protein synthesis.
• Lysosome
This is otherwise known as bag of enzymes. Its function is to destroy or remove any parjoghen which is found in a cell.
• Endoplasmic Reticulum
This is a cell component which is usually of two types. It has the Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum and the Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum. The Ribosome is always attached to the rough endoplasmic reticulum.
• Golgi Body
This cell component is responsible for the packaging of and shipment of proteins which are produced by the ribosomes.
• Mitochondria
This is otherwise known as power house of the cell. Its function is for oxidative phosphorylation and also helps to produce ATP through this process.
• Centromere
This helps in the linking up of two chromatid sisters of a chromosome together. That is what this type of cell component is known for.
• Chromosome
This contains the genetic material or anything related to genes. The genome of a living cell is usually found in a Chromosome and the chromosomes are found in the nucleus.
• Food Vacoule
This is a cell component which helps in food storage and processing. That's why it is been referred to as food Vacoule.
• Cell Membrane
This is a lipid bilayer which helps in giving a cell support and also help prevent penetration of substances in and out of the cell.
Functions of a Cell
A cell is the basic and smallest unit of life.
A cell is capable of independent existence.
A cell is capable of excretion.
A cell is capable of reproducing (reproduction)
A cell can also develop. This is know as growth.
Cells can die. This can be self death (Apoptosis) or
normal death.A cell is capable of responding to stimuli, this is known as irritability.
A cell is capable of feeding. This is know as Nutrition.
Conclusion
I'll like to conclude this post by saying the cell is actually a very important aspect of life. That's why its physiology is very important. One must ensure to do everything possible to maintain normal life functions by carrying out healthy eating habits and hold routines too. I hope this post was of great help to everyone. Thanks.

The creator of cells is all wise, his wisdom is deep and more than our understanding, it's incomparable! The cell ability to rekindle dead ones is marvelous! Thanks for reviewing on this particular topic with us here.
